The gathering storm: Latin thugs
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | Staff

There can be little doubt that this nation's campaign in Iraq has distracted it from a threat no less serious in our own backyard: Radical socialists, led by Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, are sweeping into power in Latin America.

Tut-tut, some world-watchers say; there may be a leftist movement in the region but it's nothing to worry about: We must learn to live with our Southern Hemisphere neighbors despite our differences.

Never mind Mr. Chavez's latest "effort" to work with the United States: "Go to hell, gringos!" he said in an address this week.

Chavez quickly has become a dictator, convincing his nation's congress to allow him to rule by decree for a year and a half; it will end up being for life. He's "nationalized" just about everything. He's appropriating private property. He's manipulating the food supply. He's cracking down on the media. He's spending billions on armaments.

As Investor's Business Daily aptly describes it, Chavez's Venezuela is a "democratic facade" not unlike the one a democratically elected Hitler created to launch Nazi Germany. And Bolivia, Ecuador and Nicaragua likely are not far behind.

Sooner or later, we are going to have to take out the trash. Nasty, filthy dirty job, but someone has to do it.

What I am worried about is that Russia and China backs these guys to the hilt.

The title of this made me think of the X Legion for some reason, kicking down some reporter's door and making free with his slaves and cattle.

Maybe some have been "distracted" by Iraq from Chavez, Morales, et all, in South America - but be assured that plenty are well up to speed on what is going on there including the Pentagon, et al.

At the moment, Chavez is self-destructing and (Evo) Morales in Bolivia isn't far behind. Corruption breeds corruption.

Too bad the Pittsburgh Tribune article is so short, but the IBD article fills things out nicely and I hope people will take a look at that as well.

We live in an era when our nation, our culture and our way of life is increasingly being openly threatened by proudly hostile thug nations marching behind various banners but united by a visceral hatred of freedom, individuality, capitalist prosperity and what we have come to know as basic human rights. As the world's most successful example of such virtues, the United States naturally is the designated focal point of such bile, and some lesser nations which share the majority of our ideologies and goals seem quite happy to hide behind a self-deluding aura of 'neutrality' and stand idly by or excuse the saber-rattling of these scummy little thugs.

It's essential that we all recognize our true friends during these trying times and reward them for their loyalty under adversity in every way reasonably possible.

My great hope is that thoughtful people will ask themselves "How would Hillary respond to a dirty bomb attack on, say, Chicago that can be clearly traced to Hugo Chavez?" and vote for a more coherent and steadfast alternative. Here at FR I know that I am singing to the choir on such matters, but I'm hoping that such essential concepts will be considered by the voting public as a whole.

If not, we will be in a world of trouble the likes of which this great nation has never seen before.

I agree with what you said, but you left out one other important player...the Ungracious Nations. All of those want the same thing - a global taxation system from those who have dineros (read that as the U.S.) to those that ain't got the dineros (i.e., the rest).

In addition to Iraq, Syria, Iran, the KorComs and so forth, there is always that one other (closeted) enemy we should never forget about.

Yep, the CIA used to take care of things like this in our backyard unitl the Liberals got a hold of it and "reformed" it. And we've been paying for that reform since then.

We live in a world that believes the United States is only capable of scolding it's enemies, not exterminating them. I hope the world is wrong, but I am no longer sure of it.
