THE DATE OF THIS ARTICLE IS 2001. Let's see what Rudy has to say about abortion NOW. This constant Rudy-bashing is getting tiresome. I am strongly pro-life, and if he sticks to his abortion stand I probably won't vote for him. BUT LET's WAIT AND SEE, eh?

While the national Republican platform is decidedly pro-life and has been for the past two decades, the GOP mayor of the nation's largest city believes his party's philosophical underpinnings are more in tune with the pro-abortion point of view.I've lost some of the respect I had for Rudy.

You might also note Rudy is a Catholic. In excellent standing. Two divorces and two remarriages disqualifies you from "excellent standing" in the Catholic Church. The church doesn't recognize divorce and sees his new marriages as adultery. The church also frowns on politicians who support abortion rights. The church does like his pro-gun-control position, however.

So instead of giving Rudy time to explain himself to the public over these social issues, it's better to tear him down before he has even officially declared. But Rudy HAS explained himself in public!! That's what the subject of this post was all about! Sheesh! What you're waiting for is for him to dishonestly reinvent himself and tell a bunch of lies that he thinks that will appeal to potential voters.

You guys don't get it. Social issues are not going to dominate the 2008 election.
The election will be all about finding a strong, center-right candidate who'll be on the right side of social issues but won't exclusively run on them like Brownback is going to do (and he'll be one of the first candidates out of the race too).
I don't care if Rudy dressed up in drag, that he married his cousin or slept with gays when he got kicked out of the Gracie mansion. Hunter is not electable, but he would make a helluva VP. What if Rudy, upon winning the nomination, chooses Hunter as his VP? Will you support the ticket or committ suicide off a high-rise?

But Rudy HAS explained himself in public Yeah, pre-9/11. I'm waiting to hear what he has to say NOW.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
Look, no Republican is going to run openly in 2008 as a pro-gun control, pro-abortion, and pro-homosexual Does that mean they will sincerely change their beliefs or lie? If so...no thanks.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
My guess is that these anti-Rudy folks think that if they can cut everyone else down - then Alan Keyes or John Cox or someone of that ilk will be all that's left. But what they cannot understand is that McCain is who will be left. They are, in essence, working for McCain as they tear all the supposedly *impure* candidates down.

I may agree with your here. I'm not asking for a candidate that runs on social issues. I'm asking for a center-right candidate and fighting liberal left candidates like Giuliani.

There isn't a day that goes by, where some FReeper isn't spinning nonsensical and outrageous excuses for Rudy Giuliani's past political positions and public statements he's made on a wide variety of issues. Truly amazing. Now we're to believe that Rudy is not a big government Republican, who doesn't support gun control, an assault weapons ban, abortion on demand, partial birth abortion, special rights for homos and amnesty for illegals. Can't believe you really think most conservatives are gonna really buy into that crapola. I know half of America doesn't vote, but I think most conservatives are intelligent enough to see through this transparent effort to morph Rudy into some super-conservative politico.
The 2006 election results should have put a scare into ALL Republicans. The GOP can't win elections without conservatives. Specifically, social conservatives.

My guess is that these anti-Rudy folks think that if they can cut everyone else down They are not really anti rudy. They simply want a candidate pure as the wind driven snow, and hard right. Something we all want. The difference is that they will not support anyone else, the Presidency be damned.

Does that mean they will sincerely change their beliefs or lie? Do you know that Rudy cut taxes, limited the size of city government, cracked down on crime, and told the Saudi prince to take a hike?
Do you know that Rudy implemented ZERO policies on abortion, gun control, or gays as Mayor?
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
Rudy, upon winning the nomination, chooses Hunter as his VP? Will you support the ticket or committ suicide off a high-rise?As I said in post 64, I will vote for any Republican against the Dem nominee in the election. There's a big difference between opposing Rudy's nomination and abandoning the Republican Party. Can you point to any post of mine where I have even hinted at voting for the enemy?

They simply want a candidate pure as the wind driven snow, and hard right. I want Tiger Wood's house. Do you think wishes will be horses for me? It's far past time for the *pure as wind driven snow* crowd to wake up or grow up or whatever they need to do - to acknowledge who the electorate is in 2007-8 and work for a *good enough* candidate - who can win. Tearing down people because they are not *pure* is not going elect anybody.
