Excerpt from report by Radio Australia on 25 January
The Australian prime minister, John Howard, has attacked the opposition Labor Party's position on Iraq, saying this is no time to appear to be letting down the United States. [passage omitted]
Australia's opposition leader, Kevin Rudd, has said a Labor government would pull Australian troops out of Iraq shortly after a federal election [due by the end of the year]. Mr Howard says that would be ratting on an ally.
[Howard] We're not living a very certain world. People are worried about North Korea, they are worried about a whole lot of things in our region. And I think this would be a very bad time - difficult though it is - a very bad time to be seen to be letting the Americans down.

Ping
God bless this great, great man.
I wish we had some Howard's in our own government, instead of Kennedy's and Kerry's and Pelosi's.
I was just going to ping you.
Amen.
John Howard is a Man. A real man. And his is the kind of leadership that emerges when you have someone of conviction and ability at the helm. Australia should be proud of producing someone with a spine like his.
Australia's Reagan. I love the man.
Leon Uris used to say through his composite characters that when a true leader is also a moral leader he occupies the loneliest job in the world. He invites catastrophe onto himself by doing what he knows is right despite much (often well meaning) advice to the contrary. In the end, such people are awesome to know.
John Howard - good on you, mate!
Our staunchest ally!
