The charges that Mitt Romney is not a conservative because he wasn't always pro-life strike me as pithy. There's also a hint of hypocrisy in it.

If he's pro-life now, who care what got him there? Trust me, he'll never waiver back to being just one more lean mean baby-killing machine.

I don't think his change in position on abortion is the reason for doubt. It is more likely that being Governor of Massachusetts is cause for concern. A "conservative" in MA is equivalent to a liberal in California.

God forbid you should change your opinions during a lifetime, due to increasing wisdom or rethinking an opinion or anything. Why that should be enough to get you hanged.

Mitt Romney: Conservative or Not?The jury is still out. But as the MSM needs to remind us all...He's a Mormon.

Lets just say that conservatives right now are very leery of a party that seems determined to foist anything off as a conservative on them. Just last night we had somebody telling us what a great conservative Guiliani is.
We are a little tired of phony conservatives and RINO's, and a party that seems to think it doesn't have to take us seriously.

Look anyone who doubt's he's a conservative or throws up out dated speech's should be directed to look at his record. Words mean didly, actions are what count. And from fiscal to social issues his actions as governor speak for themselves. The man is a CONSERVATIVE!

How do you know if you're a RINO?
If you're elected in Massachusetts, then you are a RINO.
My vote is for Newt or Duncan.

And yet he just left office here (Mass.) with higher unfavorable ratings than favorable. I would think that would qualify as a positive for many here on FR. In addition, the liberal Boston Globe has run many articles attempting to torpedo his Presidential candidacy. If the Globe is trying to stop him, is he really that liberal?
To: Brad Cloven
His actions as governor were pro life
His actions as governor were to protect marriage
He was not always successful, but he did all one could do with a uber liberal SCOMA and a 85% Dem legislator
As far as "Socialized Medicine" goes, I think you need to dust off your dictionary or economics textbook and find out what socialism means. Requiring adults to be responsible for themselves is not socialism.

The real problem, though, is that all of the major candidates are soft on the abortion issue. Personally, if I could be comforted that whoever I vote for will appoint conservative S.Ct. justices in the mold of Roberts and Alito, I would be willing to discount the abortion issue because let's face it, the only impact that the President has on abortion anyway is thru the appointment of S.Ct. justices.
The thing about Romney that I find most troubling is that he pushed thru universal health care in MA. That's the last place I want to go.
