Hagel is Off to The Races; The Bladensburg Races.

When “Senator” Chuck Hagel adopts the faux anger of a Lou Dobbs propaganda burst, you can bet your equity that stupidity is not only afoot, but also mounted on wings of hyperbole. The risk is not that great, Chuck Hagel has a proven track record that wouldn’t get a middle class scholar into Harvard. Except to visit the pretty campus and buy a t-shirt.

Yes, Chuck Hagel fits the perverted profile of a “Republican Who Has Grown.” Boy, does he make some of us groan. Hagel’s adopted raison d’etre is, of course, his “reasoned” opposition to the presence of the US Army in Iraq.

Hagel can play against the GOP White House, but not without a whole sandbox of playmates from across the aisle. Hagel is a godsend to the likes of Carl Levin and Joe Biden. He provides them cover and concealment as they seek to undermine President Bush and guarantee the military defeat that they’ve so heavily invested the fortunes of their political party in seeing come to fruition.

Hagel has succeeded in bringing his opposition to The Iraq War to the floor of The Senate. Regrettably, he puts it in the framework of a non-binding resolution. This stating that the sense of the Senate was that President Bush’s troop surge was not in our nation’s best interest.

Senator Chuck Hagel brought shrapnel home from Vietnam inside his body. He should know full well the tragic cost of gutless half measures. However, reading his actual policy stands, on the decisions to be made today, makes the political consumer have to wade through the type of nuance that Vietnam infantrymen used to have to burn on latrine duty. His actual recommendations deserve a trip to the burn barrel along with four parts diesel and one part Mogas.

Hagel claims to favor immediate redeployment and yet says the following:

"I don't like time frames because it gives the president no flexibility, and I think you always must have flexibility in these things and a judgment call by the president," he said.

When Israel was fighting Hezbollah recently over that groups use of Lebanon to fire rockets at Israeli citizens, Hagel claimed to be aghast at the carnage and demanded that President Bush engineer a cease fire.

"Our relationship with Israel is special and historic," he said. "But it need not and cannot be at the expense of our Arab and Muslim relationships. That is an irresponsible and dangerous false choice."

Allowing Israel to chase down a bunch of murderous wag-halters, engaged in shooting rocketry at her civilian population, is a false and irresponsible choice? Chuck Hagel really needs to leave the US Senate and try making his living at something where he actually has to make one or two responsible choices.

It seems that the man’s life has been a win-win situation for too long and he’s badly losing his edge and sense of perspective. He’s forgotten anything he learned under fire; as a soldier in defense of America. His learning curve value is greater than 1.0. It runs in the wrong direction and he finds the slog harder with each vacuous position to perceive the truth.

Hagel could salvage something of his soul; if he were to labor in the vineyards of the private sector. Even George McGovern developed a greater appreciation for the real world. It came after the former Senator and Presidential runner-up, sank both his heart and his ambitions into a privately-owned business that failed.

I don’t mock George McGovern for his failures. I praise him instead for playing against his own type and really stepping beyond boundaries. I imagine he grew from that failure. Sure it hurt; but he grew wiser in the end.

Something similar needs to make Chuck Hagel wise up. If he beliefs it to his core that the US Army has no business in Iraq, attack the funding. Pass a resolution that binds, and then fight like the 82nd Airborne against George W. Bush’s rather predictable veto missive. I may disagree with him 180 degrees on this, but I’d respect him a whole lot more if he manned up and stopped ghost-writing non-binding blather for the likes of Carl Levin.

Right now, I’m not the only one who treats Chuck Hagel’s credibility with the respect that Ayn Rand hero Howard Rourke treated the sexual chastity of Dominique Francon. Vice-President Dick Cheney laughs at Hagel’s “gurley-man” resolution, as the surge troops leave Ft. Bragg; amidst Chuck Hagel’s hardest blowing.

Chuck Hagel falsely believes that he will run a competitive campaign for the Republican nomination. He won’t get there with legislative legerdemain where the intricate details cut and run from the resolution's stated desire to cut and run. Hagel may think this will help him be a maverick and run for President. The only race he’s really running is the same one American forces ran at Bladensburg.

What can you say for a guy who retreats from his own desire to retreat. If I had to hide behnd Joe Biden's skirts, I would immediately head to the hospital and ask if they could reverse the vesectomy.

At the end of the day they can sign all the resolutions they want. The troops are going and that's that. This moonbattery is trending toward dangerous proportions IMO.

I wouldn't vote for Hagel if he was running for dog catcher, much less president. He is giving aid and comfort to the enemy every time he opens his big, fat treasonous mouth. He belongs in Leavenworth.

I truly believe(hope)Hagel is toast in Nebraska...The republicans in this state are pretty conservative and will more than likely run someone against him in the Primary...I just hope it's note the usual sacrificial lamb.

Republican fund raising has collapsed. We will NOT financially support the Party until they remove these rinos from the membership roster. NOT ANOTHER DIME!

Calling any Cornhusker FReeper who can explain to me a great mystery:

What is it with Nebraska?

You folks have a history of strange senators:

J. J. Exon was clearly more conservative than many Republicans in his home state, Bob Kerrey gave every indication of being insane, Ben Nelson votes more conservatively than many a RINO, and now Hagel flirts with the idea of leaving the GOP to run for POTUS as an independent.

Is there something in the water out there? Or maybe a genetic flaw in your hybrid corn has contaminated the human food chain?

I hope Hagel runs for president. I lived in Nebraska and once voted for him. He seemed like a conservative candidate at the time.

Now I need to right my wrong by voting for anyone else but Hagel!

You honor yourself by admitting to past shortcomings. Far more honor than "Senator" Hagel.

"What is it with Nebraska?"

My opinion of the average Nebraska voter is that they are conservative in regards to keeping Government regulation out of their personal business, but liberal in that it is fine if the Government meddles in other people's lives. Of course they also want all the free governmental handouts (farm subsidies) they can get.

If my memory serves me right, here is an illustration of what I mean; Nebraska's was one of the first states to require seat belts. However, the voters repealed that law. At the same time, they were fine with requiring helmets on motorcyclists. (this is from many years ago and I would guess that the seat belt law has since changed again.)
