CHENEY CALLS BLITZER QUESTION ON DAUGHTER'S PREGNANCY 'OUT OF LINE' Wed Jan 24 2007 13:41:22 ET
In an interview taped to air for today's 'Situation Room' on CNN, Vice President Cheney responded sharply to anchor Woilf Blitzer's line of questioning regarding the pregancy of Cheney's lesbian daughter:
Blitzer: Your daughter Mary, she's pregnant. All of us are happy. She's going to have a baby. You're going to have another grandchild. Some of the -- some critics, though, are suggesting, for example, a statement from someone representing Focus on the Family:
"Mary Cheney's pregnancy raises the question of what's best for children. Just because it's possible to conceive a child outside of the relationship of a married mother and father, doesn't mean it's best for the child."
Do you want to respond to that?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: No, I don't.
Blitzer: She's obviously a good daughter --
VICE PRESIDENT: I'm delighted -- I'm delighted I'm about to have a sixth grandchild, Wolf, and obviously think the world of both of my daughters and all of my grandchildren. And I think, frankly, you're out of line with that question.
Blitzer: I think all of us appreciate --
VICE PRESIDENT: I think you're out of -- I think you're out of line with that question.
Blitzer: -- your daughter. We like your daughters. Believe me, I'm very, very sympathetic to Liz and to Mary. I like them both. That was just a question that's come up and it's a responsible, fair question.
VICE PRESIDENT: I just fundamentally disagree with your perspective.

Begala is the biggest POS to ever migrate from the Clinton Admin to the MSM, and he beat out some stiff competition! He went totally ballistic on-air during the 2000 count-recount-rerecount-rererecount process and got a free pass, practically calling everyone who resided in a red state a homophobic, racist, sexist knuckle-dragging Neanderthal. To hell with him! And his buddy Carville!
If BS means "BuckShot", well maybe a *little* BS from the VP...
Heh. :)
Seriously, Blintz needs to STFU.
That question was submitted for her on-line chat on Monday but unfortunately was screened!
"Stuff it."
Bwahahaha!
Had to go check your posting record on that one. I thought you are just a troll, but no, you just get grumpy/prickly sometimes. You do have the ability to be quite thoughtful. You do kind of overdo the Reagan thing, but he was a great man and a great president, with some flaws, which you recognize.
Go in peace, Ray-gun man.
He is giving it to Wolf about sticking your finger in the air with regard to Iraq
They are not public figures, and who is barking? I was just letting you know what a DS you are(DS stands for dipsh**) The daughters are grown, not living at home and they were never elected to any office that I know of, therefore they are NOT public figures. You are an asshat and are just trying to stir up trouble.
If you wish to talk about "public" figures let's discuss the Clintons daugher, you know that one with the drinking problem, the problem that most likely stems from having the two worse parents in the universe. If you are not willing to trash chelsea then you are a hypocrite of the worse sort.
And in response to a comment you made about Cheney not being able to handle the truth, what truth did Wolf say that Cheney didn't handle? You think Cheney doesn't know his daughther is a lesbian and that she is pregnant? Cheney was perfectly correct in his response, and, as I have already said, you are a trouble making asshat, most likely a troll.
Good!
The point is ask everybody the questions and we know they dont, thats the issue not there false sense of concern
Hi roses,
Reviewed Ray-gun man's posting record a little, he can be fair, he just gets prickly sometimes. Happens to all of us. The posting record is such a help in understanding folks.
Regards.
"The point is ask everybody the questions and we know they dont, thats the issue not there false sense of concern"
You are right, my fellow Italian. And Wolf knew he was out of line, that was obvious from his chicken-livered opening---"I don't think this way, of course, but SOME say---"
What crap.
Or in this case Cheney obviously felt the question was not worthy of dignifying by discussing his daughter's personal life or anyone's opinion of it. He was right.
"I LOVE DICK CHENEY! Thank you, Mr. Vice President. Please run for president!"
My sentiments exactly. We need Cheney to run for president. The VP should really be the one being groomed for president.
Oh wow ... the silent pauses by Wolf spoke volumes .. he knew he over stepped the line and Cheney was ticked
Because an interviewer asks a question that involves the intimate details of a family members life (a lesbian having an in vitro pregnancy) that does not obligate the person being questioned to answer it. The V.P. had that choice, decided not to respond, and made his choice known to the interviewer, who ignored his answer in order to keep asking the same question. I wonder why? I doubt it was a desire for information. This was Wolf Blitzer on CNN.
The truth is hard for Cheney to handle, but he should have confirmed Focus' perspective IMO.
Perhaps the Vice President doesn't agree with James Dobson's 'perspective' as it pertains to his daughter. Even if he does, why should he discuss it with Wolf Blitzer on TV and why should we care, anyway? Although Dick Cheney is a public figure, his daughter is a private citizen, not an elected official. Her sex life, including her in vitro pregnancy, should be of no real concern to anyone.
Mary Cheney is almost 20 years removed from her parent's direct control or influence. Her homosexuality is probably not what Richard and Lynne Cheney would have chosen for their daughter but there is little they can do about it. Mary is an adult and can make her own choices, and she has. The V.P and his wife have not abandoned their adult daughter and are clearly determined not to criticize or embarrass her, at least not in a public venue. They are doing the right thing. It's called 'class'.
As for Mr. Cheney finding the truth 'hard to handle', you have absolutely no way of knowing whether that arrogant assumption is valid. The V.P. was rightly refusing to be drawn into criticizing his adult (lesbian) daughter's pregnancy via in vitro fertilization, asked by an ideologically hostile CNN interviewer, Wolf Blitzer.
In my not-so humble opinion, the Vice President acted correctly. To respond to Blitzer's question would have been naive, no matter what the vice president said. Mr. Cheney is not naive.
