State of Socialism
01/24/07 | knowseverything

This week's State of the Union address makes me wonder how many in our country know the difference between the statements “Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” and the new and improved ”Life Liberty and the Guarantee of Happiness”? Apparently the latter is now the Utopian dream of both the Republican and Democratic parties. Yes, the Republicans may have been forced into it by the over zealous socialist dreams of the democrats, but nevertheless they are now on board.

The modern problem we face in today's political scene is that most people would agree that the idea of everyone having great health insurance, a nice car, and a pretty wife is a generally good idea. So when they hear politicians talking about guaranteeing these things for those who go without, they think, “Why not”? This, along with having no moral foundation, encompasses the entire problem with “modern progressive theology”. It is based entirely on knee-jerk emotional reactions to situations, tossing aside rational thought, and lessons learned from history.

While it would be wonderful if everyone in America had all the best this country had to offer, one has to assign responsibility to someone if this is not the case. We must look at these portions of people suffering without health care for example, and decide who has the moral obligation to remedy the situation. Aside from children, the invalid, and maybe some elderly, I argue that this responsibility should not fall upon the government, because that translates into it falling upon me. It is simply not morally correct to force me to earn something for someone who chooses not to earn it themselves. It is theft via government agencies, plain and simple.

The top level problem with the perfect societies liberals today strive for, is that they ultimately will yield the exact opposite of what they tried to achieve. The secular governments they empower are run by man, and the more power they get, the more inherently flawed and dangerous they will become towards their populations. History proves this again and again. So not only are they stealing from you as a hard working American, in the long run, history shows that they will eventually end up killing you as well.

In today's America we already regularly omit the rights to Life, and Liberty for an entire section of our population. By changing the the last term pursuit, to guarantee, we will then grant something to a section of our population who does not feel it is their moral obligation to earn the things that come to them. This will in turn increase this mindset and expand this demographic, and those who do earn their way through life, will start to wonder why, as the benefits seem to increasingly diminish.

In fact we should all do what we can to help those among us who cannot help themselves, mainly the children. But I can tell you this; From my direct experience as a foster parent, you DO NOT want the government to control your health care, or any other aspect of your life for that matter. Our government is a big, dumb, machine, and the more involved in your life it becomes, the worse it will become for you and yours. Unfortunately, listening to G.W. Bush speak, this is the direction both of our political parties are now taking us unless it is stopped soon.

We as Americans do not have the right to health insurance, a big house, TV, car, etc..., but we certainly have the right to pursue these goals so long as our government doesn't stand in the way.

The president's proposal to raise the rates of high-end medical insurance to subsidize the low end is flat out Socialism. Some Republican he is!

There are situations developing throughout the world that'll soon make all this irrelevant.

Her blinking was quite annoying. With all those face lifts I was quite surprised she can still blink. I thought maybe she smoked some weed with The Grateful Dead and had cotton mouth.

GWB's prescription drug entitlement will be the biggest and most costly program in the history of the Republic. It's classic entitlement, i.e. just because you reach a certain age (and are part of a huge and active voting block), you get free drugs. It is shameful that so many of us are on board with this and still defend the growth of government the past six years.

I am married.

While I believe that we should take care of ourselves, my wife thinks the government owes us free health care.

That is a 50/50 split in a relatively conservative household. It gets worse in liberal households.

I think it has to do with the lack of Y chromosome...the one that demands the ability to survive without protection by a nurturing figure in your life.

Just my 2 cents:

I think the Bible is very clear on a wide range of the most important issues and is still relevant, essential and helpful for us today, 2000-3000 years after it was written.

If I HAD to pick my personal best example of the words of the Bible not being able to be twisted or turned - even with the best efforts of imperfect men and governments to do so, I would give the example of the 10 Commandments VS Socialism/Communism.

It is why (I believe) socialists and communist HATE the Bible and Christians. The plain words of the 10 Commandants are in stark contrast to what the socialists want. Virtually all the moral teachings and wisdom of the Bible have their roots in the 10 Commandments. Though these principles are more than 3000 years old, they still define the basis for a well-functioning society. And that is why the socialists/communists must destroy the Bible in order to institute their own version of society.

I. "You shall have no other gods before me. ** NOT THE STATE, NOT MAN, NOT "GREAT" LEADERS.

II. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. ** NOT THE STATE. MAN IS NOT GOD. THE STATE IS NOT GOD

III. "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. ** LOOK AT HOW THE LEFT MOCKS CHRISTIANS - THEY MUST IN ORDER TO DESTROY IT>

IV. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. ** YOU DO NOT WORK FOR THE STATE

V. "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. ** SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM IS BASED ON DESTROYING THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY - THE STATE IS YOUR FAMILY

VI. "You shall not murder. - COMMUNISM PROMOTES ABORTION. COMMINISM KILLS ANYONE WHO DOES NOT GIVE IN OR RESISTS. COMMUNISM IS BASED ON THE FEAR OF DEATH.

VII. "You shall not commit adultery.

VIII. "You shall not steal. SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM IS ENTIRELY BASED ON STEALING. MARX SAID "THERE IS NO PRIVATE PROPERTY IN COMMUNISM"

IX. "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. COMMUNISM IS BASED ON LIES. THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH OR OF THE PRESS. YOU WILL SAY WHAT THE STATE WANTS YOU TO SAY - TRUTH OR LIES.

X. "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." THE BASIS OF SOCIALISM IS THE COVETING OF WHAT OTHERS HAVE AND HAVING THE GOVERNMENT REDISTRIBUTE THE WEALTH. IT IS THE BASIS OF CLASS WARFARE.

If you follow the Bible you can NOT be a Socialist or Communist. And today, the Democrats in Americas are practically socialists. And no twisting of the words of the 10 Commandments can change that.

Also, if God had meant for man to live without freedom, he probably would not have advised the Israelites to leave Egypt, right? And, the "Parable of the Talents" to me seems to argue for investment and enterprise, no?

To me, the Bible is consistent in pointing out our obligation to the poor and those in need, but does not advocate that we organize under the banner of government to seize resources from one group to give to another (this is socialism, or if you prefer, "democracy").

WELL SAID. History has shown that government is inefficient in managing fiscal resources. Not only is it inefficient, but more government spending centralizes power creating corrupt or semicorrupt interest groups all feeding off the public.

Milton Friedman said it well in "Freedom to Choose" where he outlined how economic freedom is as important as political freedom.

Imagine how efficient our country's economy would be if the Federal Government only protected us: Defense and Homeland Security; protected our environment and health; and stayed out of education, medical care and retirement.

Is it my imagination, or has Bush, plus the Republicans in general, taken the last election defeat to mean they are not socialist enough? That they must pass the democrats on the left in order to control the political discourse and have election victories? Don't they realize that the dems didn't win the last election by gaining public support, the Republicans lost it by losing support?

Sadly, I did vote for someone else. But not a Demmycrat. The $18 trillion figure for the prescription drug benefit has been widely quoted, and is frequently described as the biggest entitlement program ever. Do I have a link? No. Sorry.
