I have seen and enjoyed his work in a million films and TV shows. But my imprinted memory of Ernest Borgnine will always be that grinning fellow, piloting the PT boat across the ocean in the opening credits of
McHale's Navy. That was a fellow who obviously enjoyed life and made a young kid feel good just watching him.
Forrest Tucker in F Troup seemed the same way to me as a small youngster way back then.
Hats off to you Mr. Borgnine! Thanks for your good work over the years.

Now I take cruises. I just returned from one that started in Auckland, New Zealand, and visited a lot of islands. I made a couple of speeches and had a great time." Now that's the way to live!

"Marty" is one of the great, great movies of all time. Even while watching it, you can hardly believe that something this lovely and warm was ever made in Hollywood. The scene when he brings the girl to his apartment to meet his mother is so very natural. I remember when I saw it for the first time, about 10 years ago, and I have been grinning ever since.

Borgnine also did a fantastic job in a TV movie where he played Vince Lombardi.
To Max McxGee: "McGee, you're late. Where've you been."
McGee: "Out with a woman."
To McGee: "I'm fining you $1,000 dollars McGee. And the next time it happens, I'm fining you $5,000 dollars."
"One more thing McGee. If you find a woman worth $5,000 dollars, come get me to go with you."

I love Ernie - he's a good conservative and a great actor. I was friends with his son when I lived in LA and he's an awesome guy - daddy raised him well.

Strange nobody's mentioned "The Emperor of the North Pole"...it takes a great talent to out-bad-ass even Lee Marvin

Happy birthday Ernie. As I kid I loved Mc Hales Navy. Ernie is one of the few actors I remeber with great affection. I think it is that bigger than life attitude and that bellicous laugh. Kids would really warm to men like that.
God Bless Ya Ernie
