House Democrats, in a brazen attempt to defend the Culture of Corruption, are set to alter House Ethics Rules in a way openly supportive of Democrats who might be found guilty by courts of law of corruption or bribery related to the passage of legislation.
Under present rules, if a Member of Congress is found guilty of a crime related to the passage of legislation, the member would have his pension cut off dated from the date of the legislation's passage -- even if it took a few years to find him guilty.
The Democrats, via H. R. 476, the Member Pension Bill, which they intend to push through tonight, will seek to change this. Under their proposal, if a bill is signed by President Bush, and then a Member of Congress is found guilt of a crime related to the passage of legislation between the President's signature and January 2, 2009, the member would receive their FULL Congressional pension.
If only medical science could keep him alive just so we could enjoy not paying him.
This is one speech that I am NOT looking forward to.
I love Pres. Bush...but when you combine Pelosi behind him...the Dems in the majority...and TOO MANY GOP Congresscritters that are stabbing him in the back...
I don't think there is a THING he could say tomorrow night that will make them happy.
Why he is even bothering with global warming is beyond me...and if I were him...I would say in the speech.
"As I said, I welcomed any suggestions regarding the way forward in Iraq....unfortunately, it is too late, as I stand here..the 20,000 are on their way to Baghdad."
I'm missing a neighborhood party to watch. I hope I'm mot sorry.
LOL...now that is a great idea.
Dems Promise Action on Ethics
Congressional Democrats stepped hungrily to the brink of power, promising immediate action to raise the level of ethics in the new congress. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the incoming majority leader, said a series of stiffer ethics rules would be passed within two weeks. The first step, he said, would consist of several measures crafted in response to the scandals that weakened Republicans in last falls elections.
Under the proposed new rules, all cash payments to members of congress from lobbyists will be frozen. This particular rule was inspired by an incident in which the FBI found $90,000 in Rep. William Jeffersons (D-Louisiana) freezer. Republicans tried to smear Rep Jefferson in the Fall campaign, Hoyer said. This new rule will provide protection against such tactics. Rep. Jeffersons actions will be exonerated ex post facto. Clause 3(c) of this new rule sets aside 1% of all future cash payments to members of congress from lobbyists to help retire Rep. Jeffersons $200,000 campaign debt.
A second proposed reform would give any Republican caught in an inappropriate relationship with a page or intern the option of switching parties. Theres nothing wrong with a healthy sex-drive, Hoyer asserted. A little titillation helps get the old engine humming. The problem is Republican hypocrisy. You cant campaign on family values and diddle the staff. Those willing to make a clean break with these so-called family values by joining the Democratic Party will be forgiven. This will restore a measure of honesty to government.
A third reform measure would bar Republicans from proposing amendments to any bills sponsored by Democrats. Republicans are inherently corrupt, Hoyer exclaimed. Everything they say is bought and paid for with corporate money. Theres no reason for us to have to listen to them. The voters didnt. Theyre with us. We have a mandate. No interference will be tolerated.
Finally, in a bid to restore civility, any member wishing to speak will be required to submit his or her intended remarks to the Speaker for review and approval. Were tired of Republicans trying to undermine the peoples confidence in the Democratic Party by their constant intemperate criticism, Hoyer complained. The Speaker reserves the right to edit or even ban speeches that dont meet her standards of civility. Republicans have a right to their opinions, but they dont have the right to be disagreeable or to insist that we must listen to their lies.
Rep. David Dreier (R-Calif.) sent a letter saying Democrats were violating promises Pelosi had made to allow a fair debate consisting of a full amendment process that grants the minority the right to offer its alternatives, including a substitute. Hoyer dismissed the complaint saying that it has always been my understanding that Republicans were against minority rights.

My 63 Ford Galaxie smelled like tuna but that's another story. ; )
"Because of the special trust and confidence we expect of them, anyone elected to the US Congress found guilty of corruption or bribery shall be publically executed.
During the time Congress is in session, those elected shall reside in barracks or dormitories provided by the government. When not in session they shall return to the State from which elected. Congress shall meet in Omaha, Nebraska. Washington DC shall remain the ceremonial seat of government.
Because representation of the people was not meant to be a career, congress shall not receive any pension or retirement benefits. "
Now this sounds like a plan.
I'm starting now.
Just tell her the funding is on the rider for the Mars Base Station where the lunar flag flies at half staff in honor of Pres. Ford's recent passing. She knows the one,...same one she looked for when the rover touched down.
I have become just fascinated with the woman's mouth. It never looks relaxed, never natural. She has that scary smile and then she pulls her lips down over all those teeth, then she wets her lips with her tongue for the pictures and then we get the scary all-teeth-showing flash again. The whole operation just looks so unnatural.
LOL! I applaude you, Rheo! LOL
I know!!
And then when she speaks the lips move funny and she "clicks" which has a lot of us convinced she had dentures.
When she opens her mouth her back teeth are perfectly white..no fillings or anything...so they could be dentures.
Hey Nancy you false teeth boob .. What happen to the Bipartition you bleeping hypocrites promised
THERE ARE TWO PARTIES IN CONGRESS .. NOT ONE
She "clicks". LOL.
She has false teeth?
FOTFL.
They Do it Shelia .. stop the BS .. just do it
I am sick of all this crap and threats
Ever listen to her speak??
She sounds like she has a retainer or her tops are slipping
LOL -- then you're right!
