With the love-fest that is currently going on over Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois), it is certainly no surprise when a group of mainstream media members gets together to discuss Hillary Clintons shortcomings. Yet, it is quite odd to hear someone like Chris Matthews state that the current frontrunner for the 2008 Democrat presidential nomination and a former first lady is a female incarnation of one of the biggest left-wing failures in decades (video available here courtesy of our friend at Ms Underestimated).
To set this up, the panel in the first segment of Sundays The Chris Matthews Show was discussing presidential candidates. As they moved in Al Gores direction, Norah ODonnell stated that Democrat party leaders are concerned about Hillarys chances in the general election, and that a more senior and experienced candidate like Gore might be the ticket so to speak.
That precipitated this rather shocking exchange between ODonnell and Matthews:
ODonnell: And its not necessarily on the war. But they want, the Democrats are so sick of losing. They just want someone that can win a general election.
Matthews: Why do they think she wont win a general?
ODonnell: Because they believe that she is too polarizing a figure because of her past.
Matthews: Dukakis in a dress.
Amazing.
Oh.........and the majority of married women voted for George W. Bush.
Do you supposet that was because he stood for the values they a.) wanted for their families and was an honest man, b.) because they agreed with his policies, or c.) because he was sexy? (Hint........it wasn't c.)
btw, I don't know one woman anywhere who thought bubba was sexy. Every woman I know thought he was revolting. Stop making things up.
Left of center posts at FR are pretty common!
Good Meek frame on your graphic!
It's a good easy little frame to use for a graphic and text. I should use it more as you can change the background color.
FreeRepublic won't let the 'border color' show up as anything but white. On a webpage you can choose two colors.
She bats her eyelashes INCESSANTLY.
ODonnell: Because they believe that she is too polarizing a figure because of her past.
Dukakis wasn't really polarizing as far as I can recall. He was just too liberal and a bad campaigner. She's far more adroit.
She has worn a dress:
Thank goodness it isn't a la Brittney Spears...
I have to give Mathews credit but just remember one technique of the left is to tear down in order to rebuild. I prefer to believe though that maybe liberals like Mathews have finally seen the writing on the wall. Getting Hillary elected is very much like running through an earthquake zone carrying a bottle of nitroglycerin.
The Democrats do not need an Obama to win, actually he is already dead on arrival but no one knows it. They have limited strategies to win the Presidency. Hillary can win only if she can effectively divide her enemies ranks. I know the GOP has a history of doing this on its own accord so this isn't as long a shot as it seems for her but I think that when it comes down to the wire every Church going conservative is going to come out and pull the lever against her. Libertarians and Conservatives alike don't just dislike Hillary they despise her and rightfully so.
What the hard left in her own party should beware is that she is not beyond jettisoning them at the first indication that they are no longer useful to her. She is not going to be able to rely on them. The tactic Hillary and the rest of the Democrats will pull is they will attempt to run against President Bush and if he doesn't do something about the continuing impression that he is detached (like with the border and convicted border patrol agents) he will be responsible for the dissolution of his party. His word parsing and splitting hairs is the reason he is in the mess he is in. We didn't elect him to play nice with Democrats and wear kids glove fighting the Iraq war. What has it gotten him? Absolutely nothing. Even what he has did that is good has been lost to the American public.
If he'd just John Wayne it and shut the damn tv off and get the reporters out of the White House and follow his instinct he'd be much better off. He could even stand to talk America up a bit and slam some of our enemies and step in and pardon some of our soldiers. Maybe even push to give soldiers the right to be tried outside the military system. If the terrorists can be why not the guys who are fighting for us?
The high class crap is wearing thin. I'd almost be happier with Hillary in there, then at least I wouldn't feel like a traitor when I attacked her.
Thinking he is a key member of the media, he is really saying he wants Barac. He would vote for her though without question. When he says people want to just win he is also speaking for himself.
.
NEVER FORGET
HILLARY in a Yankee Cap =
DUKAKIS in a Tank
NEVER FORGET
.
So they want Iraq Obama instead?
Not so bad. Dukakis was greatly harmed by his past baggage, specifically the infamous work furlough program and Willie Horton, rapist-murderer.
Nice picture. Suppressed footage from Waco I guess.
If she was wearing body armor, she might well be mistaken for a tank.
Ya gotta love it!!!! FReeper with Photoshop talent comes through!!! You just made this thread worth bookmarking!!! :-)
Are you saying only 10% of women in the USA are conservatives? There is no way.
**Dukakis in a Dress**
ROTFLOL!
Dukakis in Ol' Crusty aims more closely at the target.
The MSM is going to try to orchestrate one of the biggest bait and switch scams ever in history. They are going to purposely flip flop to paint hillary as a kind of moderate. Then paint her as a liberal.
Back and forth, back and forth. Trying to get people to buy into it that a moderate is actually someone who is between the far left and not so far left.
Then after she gets in the whitehouse, she'll show her true colors and they will all do what they can to do damage control for her.
"Your half black?"
oh man, maybe SNL is starting to get a pulse again. Its been dead for years.
Never seen Clinton wearing a dress !
