TIME FOR A REVOLUTION
January 21, 2007 | John C. Dowell

Posted on 01/21/2007 4:36:07 AM PST by Semper

It is becoming painfully obvious and disturbing that our government is not functioning as it was intended. It is taking too much of our money and not doing nearly what it should be doing to keep us safe and free. It is time for another revolution to put us back on track – not a conventionally waged revolution – no one should be killed, at least not in a literal sense. Nothing should be destroyed except wrong ideas and wrongful practices. It should be a political revolution – with a new political party and a new kind of candidate.

We could officially declare the establishment of the FREE REPUBLIC Party – the first internet conceived and based political party. We could start at the top , the presidency. Let the two antiquated parties fight over congress – for now. We can have an internet primary and an internet compaign complete with debates, that is what we do after all. Our candidate would become well known when the media figures out the entertainment value in something like this. And, at the least, Jim would be recognized for the valuable contribution he has made to this country by the establishment of Free Republic.

There is much more to this idea but I am not going to get into those details at this time. I want to see what fellow freepers think about this idea. I am writing this on a plane coming back from a tour in a remote area of Afghanistan. I have been somewhat out of touch for several months so I will need more input before more specific details of this idea are offered. And, I might be a little out of the loop until established back in the states. I will be debriefing in the Washington DC area for the first part of the week and then traveling back home to California; but whatever, I hope this idea holds some value to Freepers.

And of course I would like to be a candidate for the Freeper primary for the Presidency of this great country. I know what a long shot this is but I would love the battle involved – I am a warrior after all. And please do not jump to conclusions regarding my positions on the relevant issues – war, abortion, taxes, imigration, etc. - I am still open to influence on these matters. But I know from first hand experience that we are not winning the war on terror. We need a Commander-in-Chief who knows more about war than the current president and those who appear to be possible candidates for his job. I will be happy to confront this and all other issues in freeper style if that turns out to be what is desired. For an election the ideas are not as important as the qualifications - for doing the job well, ideas are what counts. We need to consider both.

You aren't fit to lick the bottom of Teddy's boots!

You are nothing but an armchair wannabe, spouting off and expecting to garner a following, using another man's site to do so. That is not only delusional, but THEFT!

LOL.....I'd garner more votes, here, than the person who posted this garbage, bandwidth wasting thread, I bet. :-)

Unlike him, I am not delusional and am NOT suggesting that I do any such thing.

Perhaps I shouldn't have used the title President. Dictator would have been more fitting.

Yes, one has to participate in a PROPER process to get elected president of the USA.....but THIS isn't it!

Did you even ask Jim's permission, before you posted this codswallop?

I will try to address all your points but for now I will only deal with the last.

he's also ANTI-WAR. I guess he slept through 9/11 or we have a plant doing his best to wear FR clothing.

Yes, I am ANTI-WAR. My cousin was killed in Vietnam and 3 other members of our family were wounded there. I just returned from fighting a war in Afghanistan, flying UAV's with cameras which sometimes required us to watch our guys get shot or blown up. Anyone who fights in a war or anyone who looses friends or family members in a war has a RIGHT to be anti-war and some of us feel a responsibility to be anti-war. The world is not going to get better by bullying and killing people and destroying things.

Did I sleep through 9-11? Not hardly. My experience and basic reasoning tells me that if we do not change our current activities in the Muslim world, we will soon have another such event but it will be several times worse and it won't be the last.

If I am a plant, from where do I come? Read my bio again. I have been a freeper much longer than you and that is from my second time here. I have been posting for a long time and I have changed some of my positions based upon the debates here. I think this forum is one of the greatest things to come along in my lifetime and I love it.

Finally, thank you for doubting and checking. If a little more of that was done by more people, we might have avoided so many harmful and inappropriate political leaders.

I can easily match you buster.

I lost my son, my nephew and a very dear close friends son, and my SIL is there right now and not for the first time either.

My husband before being medically retired against his wishes spent 38 years active duty.

Don't play your Cindy Sheehan games with me with your Anti-War tactics.

Before I retire for the evening I couldn't go without posting links to dispute your scattered statements about how we are LOSING THE WAR and how OUR TROOPS ARE DISLIKED by the Iraqi's.

Unfortunately, there are very few "ethics & morals" IN government. In fact, our government contains some of the most corrupt people in this country.

And, to have these same people try to dictate what OUR morality should be is ludicrous.

So, no, I don't think it's too late. Just like it wasn't to late to remove "monarchy" from government 230 years ago.

Morality cannot be legislated. It can only be taught. And, it ain't the goverenments place to do so.

When they do, all they do is create problems - as in all of the smoking, drug, prostitution, gambling, prohibition, campaign finance reform, abortion, blue laws, blah, blah, blah....

The list of failures is immense and the expense and human cost of these failures is even greater.

Build roads, print money, provide for national defense - and leave the rest of the stuff to local communities and "the people" - where it belongs.

So, you're part of the blame America crowd I see. It's Americans fault for why the muzzies kill Americans--huh? After reading your recent posts you sound more like a democrat than a conservative. Perhaps you should go campaign on the DU board where you'll get more support.

I live in Virginia and helplessly watched a very good Senator be destroyed by the press and replaced by the village idiot so I truly believe we will get no where unless we begin a revolution against the press

I hear you. But money will not be enough to gain control of the old media..

It's time, in my opinion, to understand that there are forces in this country and in this world that consciously are bringing America down, socializing the country. They cannot be bought.

To me it seems impossible to change things as you wish, unless this is more like the old fashioned revolution that you do not really covet.

Oh well.

The socialist/Marxist/liberal media is the most destructive, relentless, and ruthless enemy of this Republic.

Nothing, as far as I can tell.
