TIME FOR A REVOLUTION
January 21, 2007 | John C. Dowell

Posted on 01/21/2007 4:36:07 AM PST by Semper

It is becoming painfully obvious and disturbing that our government is not functioning as it was intended. It is taking too much of our money and not doing nearly what it should be doing to keep us safe and free. It is time for another revolution to put us back on track – not a conventionally waged revolution – no one should be killed, at least not in a literal sense. Nothing should be destroyed except wrong ideas and wrongful practices. It should be a political revolution – with a new political party and a new kind of candidate.

We could officially declare the establishment of the FREE REPUBLIC Party – the first internet conceived and based political party. We could start at the top , the presidency. Let the two antiquated parties fight over congress – for now. We can have an internet primary and an internet compaign complete with debates, that is what we do after all. Our candidate would become well known when the media figures out the entertainment value in something like this. And, at the least, Jim would be recognized for the valuable contribution he has made to this country by the establishment of Free Republic.

There is much more to this idea but I am not going to get into those details at this time. I want to see what fellow freepers think about this idea. I am writing this on a plane coming back from a tour in a remote area of Afghanistan. I have been somewhat out of touch for several months so I will need more input before more specific details of this idea are offered. And, I might be a little out of the loop until established back in the states. I will be debriefing in the Washington DC area for the first part of the week and then traveling back home to California; but whatever, I hope this idea holds some value to Freepers.

And of course I would like to be a candidate for the Freeper primary for the Presidency of this great country. I know what a long shot this is but I would love the battle involved – I am a warrior after all. And please do not jump to conclusions regarding my positions on the relevant issues – war, abortion, taxes, imigration, etc. - I am still open to influence on these matters. But I know from first hand experience that we are not winning the war on terror. We need a Commander-in-Chief who knows more about war than the current president and those who appear to be possible candidates for his job. I will be happy to confront this and all other issues in freeper style if that turns out to be what is desired. For an election the ideas are not as important as the qualifications - for doing the job well, ideas are what counts. We need to consider both.

have all the candidates study the constitution, the federalist papers, Thomas Jefferson's wriitings, all the founding fathers' writings, the declaration of independence and all the other writings that derived from a recognition of tyranny.......then you can have a debate that's worthy of being called a debate, not to mention a resurrection of revolutionary ideas that have been plucked from hibernation.

Why don't you then explain the TRUE hypothesis.

"Unfortunately this country is going to pay a major price for the decisions it recently made. "

No argument with you on that, but the price is going to be the end of this country. The Republic has been over for some time and next the USA will disappear in short order. With the indoctrination that the public schools and colleges have given for 40+ yrs., the population will have not the faintest idea what they have lost. All this is assuming that we aren't incinerated before it happens.

I don't think you understand. I could state lots of hypotheses that might be true (E.g. "If the leaves on that tree are green ... ") but it wouldn't help in the present situation. I suggest you take a course in logic.

It's a little over 200 years too late to take ethics and morals out of government, don't you think?

"I live in Virginia and helplessly watched a very good Senator be destroyed by the press and replaced by the village idiot so I truly believe we will get no where unless we begin a revolution against the press."

Yeah, and you can thank a few FReepers from VA who admitted to voting for the village idiot. Guess we have our share of idiots here at FR who are only "conservatives" when everything is going their way, but when it's not they jump ship.

"I could go on, but I'll spare everyone."

Please don't spare anyone. What you said is important and needs to be said, again and again. Excellent post! Please write more, as it needs to be said--and you say it very eloquently.

Tenn: Like what you say. That kind of idea can morph into something palatable to large numbers of people, if well explained. This could be how it starts. Unfortunately, most people are content to start a discussion, most aren't willing to put their "lives and fortunes" at risk.

Believe me, the knives would come out if and when such an idea started to gain traction.

Single-mindedness of purpose is the key.

Do you think there are enough dedicated people? (I hesitate to use the word "patriot" for fear of the negative connotation our opposition would impute)

I think if the illegals can take to the street and get attention why can't we just quit paying the taxes that support them? It has to be done by equally huge numbers so it would be impossible (as is claimed) to prosecute and put in jail.

You can bet your sweet bippy that they'd go after the organizers. Take the head off the snake so to speak. That's how the beauracracy works.

It is huge and powerful. Those who are now in power would make sure that the system, such as it is, worked for them.

This discussion is really about one thing: POWER; who has it and who wants it.

it's a losing battle if started at the top with a third party.

How about Ross Perot? He could have won if he had stuck with the battle. There are a lot of people out there that are sick and tired of "politicians" trying to do nothing but gain and retain power. The reason I am offering to run is because I am in a position to do things that most can't or won't do. After we explore the basic idea a little more, I will get into the specifics of how we could win and how we can solve some of the problems.

Two simple laws would change the entire system in Washington, but I doubt that we could ever get them passed. 1. Only individuals can contribute to a political candidate. 2. No one can contribute to a political candidate for whom they cannot vote. This would force our representatives to truly represent their constituants or get replaced at the next election.

Very true. We think alike; I wrote almost the same thing here quite some time ago. That is the type of reform that people can understand and a good leader could get that through congress - because the people would demand it.

I agree 100%. One world order by select elite of all countries! Did you ever read Captains and Kings by Cauldwell Taylor? Excellent novel starting as poor Irish immigrant progressing to an American empire and the concept of one world order. Great read.

We have to check with Jim to see how that should be done. You are, however, on record as being in support - see how many others you can recruit.

Frankly, I'm not a subscriber the the "conspiracy theory" per se. that said, I believe what drives most people is the desire to acquire power. As opposed to a conspiracy, I look at it as a confluence of interest. People who have power want to keep it and will work together to keep it so long as their interests don't conflict. Ultimately though, they will turn on each other.

Ultimately, what WE want is power. What we do with it is the difference between "us" and "them".
