The pilot of a Continental Airlines flight became ill after takeoff and was later pronounced dead after the plane made an emergency landing Saturday, a company spokeswoman said.

The 210 passengers on the flight, which departed from Houston, were never in danger and the co-pilot landed the plane safely, Continental spokeswoman Macky Osorio said.

The airline said only that the pilot suffered a "serious medical problem." Continental believes the pilot died of natural causes, Osorio said. The pilot's name was not released.

You left out an important detail:

The flight, bound for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, took off from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and was diverted to McAllen-Miller International Airport.

You realize this means....

wait for it...

It's Bush's fault!

"There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?"

"The survival of everyone on board depends on just one thing: finding someone on board who can not only fly this plane, but who didn't have fish for dinner."

We have to get him to the hospital.

The hospital, what is it?

A big building with doctors and nurses, but that's not important right now.

My mother hand no interest in piloting a plane, but she took the whole pilot course just to make sure that there were TWO people in the plane who could land it.

I hate hearing stories like this.

I just hope the members here will show some decorum and not bring immigration into this thread.

I recall a flight into Hong Kong where the cabin crew were scurrying up and down the aisles. Shortly after they began their galloping, there was voice on the intercom asking if there were any medical professionals aboard. The landing was a bit bouncy...

210 pax? Must have been a 767.

Same thing happened a few years ago, can't remember the airline, but the captian was a Bulgarian guy and he died on take off.

Its hard enough when a passenger dies on a flight, but for a pilot, that is harsh.

It was probably a heart attack or stroke. This can happen, and even though it's rare, you don't want to be onboard if the only pilot becomes incapacitated.

I don't know how to land a Citation.

I could take off using the Microsoft simulator, but I crashed every landing but one, and I still went off the runway. Don't count on me.

Ya beat me to it.

I really wish we would have gotten some -300's before they shut the lines down.
