A suspect in a string of armed robberies is in police custody today after a woman reportedly fired at the man during an attempted carjacking Saturday.

Police said Harold Levar Jeffcoat tried to carjack a man and woman as they were leaving the Two Notch Road Super Wal-Mart.

The man told police the suspect pushed a gray pistol into his stomach and demanded the keys to the car. The woman reached into the car and pulled out a pistol from the glove box, the report said.

She fired five shots at the suspect, who dropped the pistol as he ran away. He fled in a burgundy Buick.

Jeffcoat was arrested at Providence Hospital Northeast where he was seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his buttocks, according to a report from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Jeffcoat is charged with armed robbery and armed robbery with a deadly weapon, according to information from the detention center.

He is being held on a $200,000 bond and he will likely face additional charges, said Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Capt. Joseph Pellicci.

Jeffocoat was featured in the Monday edition of The State as the Midlands Most Wanted.

I thought that this had to take place in the South! A gun in the glove compartment and Two Notch Road were telling.

With this bozo, "standing trial" may take a new meaning.

There is a consistency in these shooting stories and that is that they perp was a suspect in many prior crimes that the cops failed to solve or apprehend anyone.

They were intended victims. They didn't attempt to be victims. The headline writer clearly doesn't understand the meaning of words well enough to be employed in a position that involves communication.

You kinda beat me to it. I was going to write that nobody attempts to be a victim. Then I realized, actually they do. In fact, it's fairly common. The Duke Lacrosse team comes to mind.

No one "intends" to be a victim either. The adjective "attempted" can apply to the victim or assailant just as easily as "intended".

Now this lady may end up in jail like the border patrol agents since she fire a bullet in his butt. You know, he was fleeing!

Two Notch Road and Richland County. Has to be Columbia, South Carolina. I was stationed at Fort Jackson. Longest 17 months of my life. I did like Columbia, though. Beautiful city.

I wish my son's friends had been armed a couple of weeks ago. A 24 yr old man & his 21 yr old date were carjacked, taken hostage, brutally killed (after she was raped repeated for a couple of days). Her boyfriend had been shot 3 times, his body dumped beside some railroad tracks and set on fire on Saturday night. Sunday morning a railroad worker found his body. God bless the families of Chris Newsom and Channon Christian, Knoxville, TN. I strongly encourage my son (age 26) to never leave his house after dark unarmed.

Attempt is a verb, but when converted to an adjective with the addition of "ed" (i.e. "attempted), then it would describe the action, such as "attempted robbery" or "attempted pass" or "attempted run" etc. The perp attempted to steal the car from the couple at gunpoint. He intended that the couple would be victims. Their "victim" status was his intent; and he attempted to rob them. It is a somewhat subtle distinction perhaps, but those subtle distinctions often make the difference between proper and improper use of the language.

Hmm, yeah...his "attempted" victims "attempted" to put five shots into his carcass and only got a couple. Practice, practice, practice...
