A St. Charles County man has been charged with firing a BB gun at his 12-day-old baby.
Shawn Michael Mohan, 20, shot his infant son several times, police say, causing circular shaped bruises to the baby's face, upper left arm, hand, foot, hip and buttocks. Authorities found out about the injuries when the child went for a routine examination at his pediatrician's office, and the doctor placed a hotline call to the Division of Family Services.
"He's claiming it was an accident, but we feel that the evidence points otherwise," said Lt. Craig McGuire of the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department.
Police say the shooting took place Dec. 21 at Mohan's apartment in the 1200 block of Park Ashwood Drive, in an unincorporated part of St. Charles County near St. Peters. The baby's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
Mohan is on probation after pleading guilty to a child endangerment charge in July 2005.
Those charges stem from a serious head injury that left Mohan's first son unresponsive when he was 3 months old. After an investigation, police ruled out several stories that Mohan had given them about how the child might have been injured and sought charges against him.
Police did not know if the older boy had recovered from his injury or who had custody of the two children. No one answered the door to Mohan's apartment Tuesday evening.

Get a rope.
He may be the sire, but he's certainly no father.
"Charging" this bum is too easy. I say form a good old fashioned Army Blanket Party in his honor and invite every parent in the county to attend.
"After his guilty plea two years ago, Mohan was given a five-year suspended sentence."
The liberal concept of "justice"
Time to take out the white trash.
I'm thinking OOOOOOOOday's & Kooooooooosay's shredder, feet first, might be too good for this mutant.......................
There was a time in this country when sh!t like this was unimaginable.
There was a time in this country when he wouldn't have made it alive to arraignment. A mob would break him out of the jail and do the job themselves.
A real human being is incapable of shooting any 12 day old baby, much less their own 12 day old baby. This creature must be castrated, if his crime against his own child does not warrant the death penalty. No one can "accidently" shoot something, or someone 12 times.
Like the mob that would have lynched the three Duke Lacrosse players in Durham? Give the defendant his day in court.
Prayers for the baby.
Give this piece of trash to me for about 10 minutes and I can guarantee he will never harm a child again!!
My personal feelings aside, you are right.
This dope needs to be kept away from kids or one is going to die.
I'm one county over, but I'm in.
Punishment should be about 12 "BB" size holes in him too, with a shot pattern of about 8 inches diameter. (Maybe two patterns if you want to use both barrels).
He already had his day in court, two and a half years ago.
Did you miss the part about his brain damaged FIRST child that he is on a suspended sentence for?
Yes, I read a report by a journalist, which I have learned are not always accurate. So I'll wait for a court to determine all the facts, including entering a certified copy of the previous conviction into evidence rather than rushing to judgment on the unconfirmed word of a journalist, who are are rarely held accountable for mistakes and thus make lots of errors.
Finally, if it is true that the defendant caused brain damage to his first child and only received a suspended sentence, I would think that the judge would be a better target for lynching. The defendant will get what's due him, but I doubt if the judge will ever pay.
I am with you on prayers for the baby...... This is just so sick. Where was the mother???? I like the idea of a flare gun or a nail gun myself. I know if a man did that to my baby he would be hurting and I would be in jail.
