The most lasting tragedy of the Vietnam War is that it has legitimized giving aid and comfort to the enemy. We are seeing the giving of aid and comfort to the enemy running wild in this war on terror and sadly not only among liberals and their media but also among some conservatives who some of them are right here on this great Free Republic.
When Al Qaeda terrorists, or the terrorist regimes in Iran and Syria, or the Iraqi insurgent terrorists whether they are Sunnis or Shia hear the speeches of defeatism coming from liberals and their media, or unfortunately coming from some conservatives who some of them are right here on Free Republic, will they feel comforted and aided by these speeches? Of course they will be comforted, and they will be embolden to fight more and more, kill more and more, destroy more and more, because they realize that many Americans do not have the will to fight a long and hard war.
Defeatism and providing aid and comfort to the enemy was something that we expected from liberals and their media because their hate to President Bush and the Republican Party is hundred of times more than their hate to the terrorists. However it is really sad that some conservatives and some members on this great forum are doing their share in providing aid and comfort to the enemy through their defeatist attitude.
Do the defeatists want to amend the Constitution so we will have the following? Stop the war and leave if we lose more than one thousand troops, or stop the war and leave if it lasts more than one year, or stop the war and leave if it costs more than 50 billions dollars, whichever comes first. Do they want to do this?
The defeatists who argue that Iraq is not part of the war on terror but rather it is just a civil war between Sunnis and Shia are wrong and naive beyond belief. Iraq is most definitely the central and most important front in the war on terror. It is in Iraq where Al Qaeda and their local Iraqi allies decided to fight the US. It is in Iraq where the islamic terrorists from all over the world are pouring in to fight the Americans. It is in Iraq where the terrorist regimes of Iran and Syria and their local Iraqi allies want to defeat the US so they can have total control of the Middle East. Since the terrorists are all over the world, then the best way to fight them is to attract them to one place to kill them. Whether it was planned or not, Iraq turned out to be the magnet that has been attracting the terrorists from all over the world, and that is the ultimate way to fight the war on terror and to kill as many terrorists as we can.
Every defeatist who is giving aid and comfort to the enemy should ask himself or herself this question: What will happen if we leave Iraq before we achieve complete victory? The First thing that will happen is that the enemy will be embolden beyond belief and the terrorists whether they are Sunnis or Shia, whether they are Al Qaeda, or Iran or Syria, will be given the ultimate victory that will embolden them thousands more time then when they were emboldened when the US left Beirut after the Marines barracks terrorist attack in 1983, or when the US left Somalia in 1993 after the terrorist killed 19 troops, or when no reprisal happened against the terrorists when they attacked many American targets through out the Clinton years. If our passiveness to the past terrorist attacks emboldened them in such a way to attack us on 9/11, think about what they can do to us if we give and leave Iraq and thus handle them the ultimate victory that they have been dreaming about for decades.
The defeatists must understand that if few terrorists sitting in a cave in Afghanistan with a small budget and few volunteers were able to do the 9/11 terrorist attacks, killed 3000 Americans, and caused over one trillion dollars in economic damages, then the terrorists control of Iraq and of the whole Middle East, and its vast oil resources will allow them to conduct terrorist attacks against us that we cannot imagine even in our worst nightmares. By controlling Iraq and the Middle East the terrorists will have hundreds of billions of dollars under their control that they will use it to attack us everywhere in the world and the US and cause unimaginable death, destruction and economic losses that will make 9/11 terrorist attacks look like a picnic in comparison. They will also use the oil weapon to bring the world economy to a disaster that will be many folds worse than that of the 1929 Depression.
Fellow Free Republic members, we are fighting the most important war since WW II. We are not fighting for the Iraqis in Iraq but we are fighting for ourselves, for our freedom and for our way of life. Let us all support our President and our brave troops because they need our support now more than ever.
Elpasser said: "Dude, we're still a free people and it's okay to debate what our government's policy should be."
Elpasser, I am a swiftboat vet. If you think the lefties will leave you alone and allow you to debate freely then you are wrong. The Swiftboat Veterans and POWs for Truth recently got hit with a $299K fine by the FEC for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech rights in the 2004 election.
The liberal creep democrats won't be happy until they stifel every opposing voice.
Well, with the climate as it is... I think the question has to be asked.
If "conservatives" sat at home because of this or that during a time of war to prove a point... when we have cells in this country and CAIR chipping away at our legal system... I ask them:
"Are you now, or have you ever been a defeatist?"
This is not a game, political or otherwise. Will it take a Beslan to wake this country up?
It's not a screed when I talk to troops who think this is their only refuge... only to see trolls or dissent because of one issue or the other. Remember, the troops and their families (including those gold star fathers and mothers that gave their children for our continued freedom), read this forum as well. Sometimes it's not "all about me and my one issue". If we don't squash this, the rest means nothing. If we spent more time getting in touch with our representatives instead of bloviating to no purpose (while lowering the morale), it would be be productive.
You sound sort of a like a dem, who thinks it is important to emphasize that some plans by the MILITARY did not work...and that SO FAR we haven't found the WMD...
So...therefore, it is okay to bash the POTUS/CIC while we are in the middle of the war....
How can you or anyone saying, "na, na..I was right the POTUS was wrong"...helpful?? How does that keep our troops' morale high....or our country safer??
How do you know that just because we didn't find the WMD's "stockpiles"...that the weren't/aren't there?? That is a hugh country..and we are still finding weapons caches.
How do you know that since it took so long for the war to START after everyone in the ME knew we were going to invade...the WMDS weren't moved??
How do you know that part of the problem wasn't what Tommy Franks said...when he said that the USA was a victim of it's own success...we were so successful, so quickly, at the start...took Baghdad so quickly...
That we were caught in the vaccum that was a quick VICTORY!!
All I am saying is....why do posters feel the necessity to be negative about the PAST...and blame Pres. Bush for MILITARY tactics and strategys??? Would you want someone like Hillary or Osama Obama questioning Gen. Petraeus' military knowledge..and have one of them tell him he doesn't know how to run a war????

This might help to explain what a BIG part of the problem is.
Kurdistan is also a full partner in the national government.
One of the most galling is "No wmds were found in Iraq". This is an absolute falsehood. We did find chemical munitions, bio weapons starter kits, production facilities, prohibited missle and uav programs, everything needed to resume the nuclear weapons program, including yellowcake and enriched uranium.
What we don't know is what happened to the large stockpiles of these weapons that iraq admitted to having. We suspect that they are in syria and iran, but we don't know.
We also know that iraq had deep ties to al-queda and virtually every jihadist terror group known. We also know that iraq trained and funded thousands of these terrorists.
Above all we know that saddam had intent to do us harm.
We know much of this because of the work of jveritas and others here on FR
And it's no doubt the MSM whining about the pre-war docs website was not just to make the Bush administration look bad, but to slow or stop if not the translation of the docs, then the public awareness of them and the public availability of them.
My contribution?
SF-RVN, (1969-1972) Sniper Corps.
There's your example.
I'm sure when troops read that, their morale boosts.
Especially the gold star parents.
LOL..you must not have read the thread that YOU started around Thanksgiving.
Talk about being called names my friend! The fact that you are still here and posting, says a lot about your thick skin.
sheesh...
To be asked to think, debate, and be aware of what one says does not seem like too much to ask.
Oh you are a defeatist and the terrorists love your defeatist attitude when you say that we are going to lose the war. You are the type of defeatists who hide their defeatist attitude under the "Macho Talk" stuff but at the end all what they say is "that we are losing, we are going to lose, etc...". You are one of them.
"The Swiftboat Veterans and POWs for Truth recently got hit with a $299K fine by the FEC for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech rights in the 2004 election."
No they got fined because they failed to register and file disclosure reports with the FEC. Moveon.org was fined for the same infraction also.
Indeed. They're so tight that Iraqi military units are not permitted in Kurdish lands, and the flag of Iraq is banned from government buildings in favor of the Kurdish one.
It's not nearly as hard to set up a functioning society and government around people who get along. My point is that exporting the Kurdish success story will require carving Iraq apart first. Otherwise, it's back to the drawing board.
The troops have thicker skin than that. They don't care what pontificating idiots (and I include myself in that category at times) say in cyberspace. They're too busy doing their jobs.
Well said.
I see you have a lot of reading to do... get maps.
It's probably very important for folks to realize that the opposition operatives on FR are often paid to do what they do -- and what they do is disrupt organization. Every post spent deriding them and arguing with them is energy not spent campaigning or fund raising.
Move On is RIGHT NOW funding attack ads in New Hampshire to go after McCain's pro surge position. THEY aren't being distracted and diverted. Regardless of what you think of McCain, the point is they are spending money right now to subvert American conservatism.
What are we doing? We're spending time criticizing Republicans.
Anyone who ever utters something like . . . "maybe its best if Hillary wins because that will teach America a lesson and we'll come out ahead in the long run as a result" . . . probably is a candidate for banning. This is the kind of thing that is intended to sap intensity.
The goal is NOT conservatism. The goal is defeat of liberals. If you stay focused on defeating liberals with a candidate perhaps only one iota rightward of the liberal, you make progress. If you focus on trying to out conservative the conservative next to you, you drain resources from the fight against the real enemy.
We most certainly are not fully engaging. Al-Sadr should have long been cold and in a hole.
Read the rules of engagement. Our soldiers are driving around waiting to be shot at or blown up by an IED before they engage. We're not fighting the enemy, we are policing the enemy - BIG difference.
I not saying cut-n-run, I saying go on offense. Hunt the wanna be trouble makers; Sunni, Shia, jihadi terrorists of whatever stripe, and kill the SOB's. They want to be martyred, let's oblige them.
BTW - People having different opinions and viewpoints is a good thing. I don't like being scolded for not thinking exactly like an individual or group thinks I should. Talk about sounding like a leftist.
WELL SAID!
I have been trying desperately to counter this very thing for the very same goal as you stated so eloquently!
