U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter will go south to formally launch his bid for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.
Roy Tyler, the El Cajon Republican's communications director for the effort, said Tuesday that the announcement will take place Jan. 25 at a $250-a-plate breakfast at a Marriott hotel in Spartanburg, S.C.
"Congressman Hunter will speak about a new American sunrise of opportunity, faith and freedom," according to an invitation for the event.
Hunter, 58, announced in San Diego in early November that he was considering a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, keying on national security, immigration and border security issues.
Last week, Hunter filed his formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, establishing the Hunter for President Exploratory Committee and naming longtime supporter Bruce Young of San Diego as his treasurer.

I like his type. Some will, some won't. I've seen him chair the House Armed Services Committee. I've seen him speak on the House floor. Fox News covered him when he announced he was exploring he possibility of running for President, a few short months back, live from San Diego. He's been interviewed a few times. I saw him as I was channel hopping and passed CNN, recently. He is good.
Me neither... Things are going so fast! I helped to elect him when I was living in San Diego CA years ago, that is how I knew of him. He looks great on paper... But I am hoping he can project this positions in a way people like him... And at the same time not to scare the Middle.
I had no idea how to construct the table... It is up to all you ladies and gentleman... to give me your ideas. Titles for each column and the candidates we will consider, and in which order... hey, that is the name of the game :)
Thanks. I got in on the very end of it. He was adamant that the border fence must be built!
Too bad you just missed him...he was on with Neil Cavuto just minutes ago.
Share, share :)
Hunter is supposed to be on Lou Dobbs today as well.
Hunter has been on TV tens of dozens of times over the years.
C-Span with his Armed Servies Comm. many times.
Meet The Press and other National Programs over the years.
Twice today on FOX.
So many on FR speak about not watching TV or news programs.
There is where many miss Hunter and also what is going on.
I've already said those positives about him. Sorry, guess you haven't seen my posts about him before. He's excellent in my view. But until you hear him for yourself you'll always wonder if others know what they're talking about, most likely.
Monterrosa - I've seen pictures of him, and to me he is patrician, regal and eminently presidential. Certainly he presents better than McCain or Obama. I haven't heard him speak yet, but someday I'm sure I will. I hope his name starts getting whispered everywhere, until it becomes a shout!
I may be different than a lot of females (at least the ones I know!) Here's what I want: 1. Close the borders...NOW. 2. Build up our defense systems so we no longer have to worry about possible attacks - here or on our interests or allies abroad. 3. Get rid of pesky problems - Iran, are you listening? 4. Get your hands off my pocketbook.
I think Congressman Hunter can provide those things. I'm ready to help forward his cause.
Conservatives do not easily commit suicide, NeoCons may, and trolls already have. If conservatives cannot figure out a logical path from the hole in which we find ourselves, then the future is bleak.
Perot was not a household name when he first started, though granted he did have a dollar or two to rub together.
Hunter and Tancredo would be a great combination.
I won't be found watching LD for ANY reason. But if others want to in order to see Duncan for themselves, more power to 'em.
I'll try tonight. thx
I'm speaking of FReepers. I think there's a better chance of non-FReeper Conservatives rallying around ONE - hopefully Hunter - than most of us here. I just go by what they post. Those for Paul, Keyes, Tancredo, etc.
Another post said he will be on CNN tonight with Lou Dobbs. Can't stand that man, but I wish you could see DH for yourself.
Duncan Hunter fan here!
I will watch DL tonight for sure :)
