Political analyst Dick Morris used a baseball analogy out of season to summarize what he considers the bleak prospects for Republican victory in the 2008 presidential election.
"I think youll see one of the minor leaguers win it [the GOP nomination], Morris told Fox News Channel.
Morris thinks the leading Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are "too flawed to win the hearts and votes of conservatives in the early primaries.
"The top four candidates for the Republican nomination cant win, Morris said. "Rudy Giuliani, John McCain . . . Romney with all of the flip-flops on abortion and Newt Gingrich, who I dont think gets into it.
That leaves a cast of lesser-known Republicans in line for a surprise run toward the nomination.
"I think that the Republican nominee is going to be one of these minor leaguers: [Tom] Tancredo, [Mike] Huckabee, [Sam] Brownback, [Jim] Gilmore from Virginia, Duncan Hunter from California, Morris said. "Its like the pitching rotation is all going to be injured at the World Series and the Triple A pitching staff, one of them is going to pitch the opening game.
Morris suggests the GOP will face Hillary Clinton in "the big game, despite all of the buzz surrounding Sen. Barack Obama.
"Obama serves the function of keeping Al Gore out of the race, Morris said. "He just sucks up too much of the anti-Hillary vote, but he wont win.
Morris said Obamas showing in the primaries may boost Hillary to victory in the general election.
"Hillary will run a vigorous race against Obama, probably a nasty race, he said. "She defeats him, then reaches out to African-American voters and puts Obama on as vice president.
"I have said from the very beginning, Hillary is the Democratic nominee and she is the next president of the United States.
No one is saying they won't vote, just that they won't vote for certain people. That is why we have a primary campaign, and don't accept people just because they have staff out here campaigning on the web.
It's touching, really...
That's not true. Unless Imus lives in Chicago, he won't live long enough to vote for anyone in 2008.
By then maybe Chelsea will be old enough!
Some might say he still is.
Stop it, you guys! You're making my head hurt!
There ya go, and then there are the Bush twins.
"Get this through your thick skull: Social Conservatives and Religious Right Christians will NOT vote for Giussolini." Then they are a lot dumber than I think they are. What kind of brain says I'm will thrown everything in the toilet because I don't agree with everything? The GOP cannot rely on people who think like that, no party can.
Your political power might be formidable if you can manage to elect someone you like as Senator or Governor first.
I'm just one WhiteGuy, I have just 1 vote, I have ZERO political power. I vote for who I wish, or not if I choose.
In the last election the candidates I voted for for gov and senator did not win. It was still good for me.........
Paul in 2008
I predict that if Barack Hussein Obama Jr. is elected President, he will convert (back) to Islam within his first two years in office.
So nominate someone else that EVERYONE in the GOP can accept.
It has worked in the past.
Oh, good. Most of us get one vote. You just throw it away or use it to make yourself feel smug. It is for you that I wrote my tagline.
If Giuliani were the pick, and it was between him and Hilary, I would of course take the lesser of two evils and vote for Giuliani.
Hillary and figurehead will NEVER go in the same sentence. (Other than that one.)
"None of those minor league candidates will ever have the money to take down all of the top tier GOP candidates."
That's exactly right.
I don't know how the Duncan Hunters or Tom Tancredos can hope to amass $50,000,000.00 to make a run for POTUS. All they can hope to do is influence the other "cash-flush" candidates in the primaries. If they do well enough, they can *maybe* even hope for a shot at the VP slot (doubtful scenario).
Time will tell.
It is for you that I wrote my tagline.
Why thank you, you're so thoughtful!
You just throw it away or use it to make yourself feel smug.
Deal with it.
I didn't write that sentence well. I meant that Obama's lack of experience qualifies him as a minor leaguer, and the only thing that makes him a major leaguer (in Morris' view and a lot of peoples' views, evidently) is the media-driven personality cult that has grown up around him.
The challenge is going to be overcoming the DBM's trashing.
See my #97.
Oh, I'm not concerned about you. But others read these threads. I do it for them. I'm a giving person.
