The plot of the hit Fox drama 24 may make for exciting television, but Muslim groups fear their representation as terrorists does more than entertain - it vilifies an entire religious group.
I think that TV has quite an effect on how people think, said Nadeem Mazen, past president of the MIT Muslim Association. So much of what we hear on Muslims is hearsay - an expert opinion by people with a personal agenda and not necessarily motivated by truth. And then a show like this comes along that perpetuates the them factor.
The plot of the sixth season of 24 takes place two years in the future and is the most fear-mongering to date. America is being bombarded by Islamic suicide bombers, the presidents chief of staff sets up Muslim internment camps, civil rights and privacy laws are more flexible than Mary Lou Retton and the seemingly sweet Muslim teenager next door happens to be a terrorist complicit in the first nuclear attack on American soil.
Of course, its a show. But TV not only reflects the zeitgeist - it also influences it, some say, meaningthe writers of 24 have to be careful, said Rabiah Ahmed, spokeswoman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
I saw 24 (on Monday) and we do have concerns with the show, Ahmed said. We are monitoring it and will be contacting our contacts at Fox to discuss those concerns.
According to Ahmed, her organization and the creators of 24 have a good relationship - in fact, two years ago, when a Muslim family was depicted as terrorists, they listened to the concerns of the Muslim community.

Yeah but SHOTIME is a premium channel and local FOX can be viewed by anyone. Ever wonder why CNN is not a premium channel and yet FNC is? I am confronted daily by leftist who always quote what they see and hear on CNN and when I tell them that CNN is biased they do not comprehend. Many lower income families, often associated with being leftist or socialist politicaly, only hear about the news from a left biased media.
Correct.
"The Global Faces of Terrorism"
US Department of State
Hey CAIR - what is the common denominator here?????
[Muslims voice concern over 'outing' of terrorists 'agenda' on 24]
A more accurate edit of headline.
These faces and many others are here to wipe us out!
Looks like only a few of us care, or understand!
Unfortunately people have short memories and some have forgotten 9/11.
I'll never forget.
THE BOSTON HERALD
LAUREN BECKHAM HYPHEN FALCONE
Lauren is the TV writer for the Herald, so I await her insightful observation about the British Channel 4 documentary which is not fantasy, rather it is the voice of Islam in it's own words.
I voice my concerns that Muslims voice concern over portrayal of terrorists on 24
Those 19 hijackers on 9/11/2001 were all muslime terrorists.
Physician (or CAIR) heal thyself.

That should read, "...vilifies and entire political group." Until we recognize that Islam is a political movement and not a religion we will have trouble dealing with the enemy.
If Ahmed really watched the "24" premiere, then he should have noticed that the fictionalized version of his own organization (the Islamic American Alliance on the show) consists of good guys who are being unfairly targeted. The leader even passes critical information he overhears to the government through his lawyer.
I think maybe Ahmed is seeing what he wants to see and ignoring the rest.
The show is making the "CAIR" cutouts look good.
We really need to get them onto some other sort of hobby.
Right now we know the real bad guys are the cabal we call the "Bluetooth Gang" for the Ronnie Howard looking guy with the Bluetooth earpiece that was running the President last year. They have something to do with the Caspian Oil conspiracy that's been part of the show from the beginning. They will be back. As to whether they are the ultimate bad guys, I do not know.
What if 24 had the whole world go to hell and Jack be a Mad Max type of character, some year in the future.
Truth is what I can get you to believe.
So they're upset - put a disclaimer before each show then tell CAIR and its ilk to go **ck themselves.
Maybe season 7 should focus on environmentalist wackos.
