President Bush met with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in the Oval Office today.
President Bush also welcomed the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals to the White House this afternoon.
Vice President Cheney was at the Pentagon speaking at the naming ceremony of the USS Gerald R Ford.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice continues her travels and meetings in the mid-east.
First Lady Laura Bush continues her three-day visit to France, touring a number of landmarks in Paris.
President Bush has proclaimed today (Tuesday January 16th) as "Religious Freedom Day." In the presidential proclamation, Bush said today commemorates the passage of the 1786 Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, which was written by Thomas Jefferson, and to celebrate the First Amendment's protection of the right to worship freely.
The proclamation notes that people in other parts of the world don't enjoy the same liberty, and many face religious persecution. Bush calls the freedom of worship" a gift from the Almighty", and he says the United States, quote, "Must continue to promote the importance of religious freedom at home and abroad."
That was great, wasn't it. They love his sense of humor!
I just remembered the way the baseball thing started.....
President Bush spotted a NY Yankees cap in the corner of Chad's room and said, "You're a Yankees fan, huh?"
Chad replied, "No Sir! I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan, actually."
The President then said something to the effect of; A Cards fan? Well, you will have to come over to the House when they come to visit.
They were shocked when they got a call from the White House last week inviting them to be there when the Cards came calling.
HOW can people hate this man so?
Amen. I know that we have Rush to blame for the new MO RAT Senator Claire McCaskill. (who didn't not attend the congressional orientation because she took her family sightseeing in D.C.-----gossip courtesy of my hair stylist, LOL).
Which reminds me, did you see the thread that Michael J. Fox will be attending the SOTU address as a guest of some RAT? Thanks again for that, Rush.
Am I series? LOL --- MAYBE. I just checked and it looks like a slow news day. I've already snagged the photos from this morning and I'll look later for any of First Lady, VP or Condi.
I concur --- he caused the most trouble in your state with that personal dust up with MJF. I just saw where MJF will be the SOTU guest of Rhode Island Rep. Jim Langevin.
Perhaps he will receive an award similar to the one Rush got in 1994..."The Majority Maker."
There ya go, Rush! Now sit down and shut up!!
I loved GWB's comments yesterday when he related this part of the conversation and then made the comment that what he said to them was sort of like "the check's in the mail"--as if it was nice of him to invite them but they wouldn't ever hear about it again. I just love it that GWB and his people actually remembered to make good on this invitation! So cool.
HOW can people hate this man so?
I don't know. Something is seriously wrong. To think that so many of them can go around thinking that GWB's predecessor was so wonderful--and then when they can see a man of truly good character and strength they can't recognize it--it makes no sense.
Miss Marple, you are right on the money here!
The reason these people are famous, and the reason Fox rose to such great success is because they appealed to conservative listeners.......decent, rational, patriotic conservatives........not just extremist, angry loonies who call themselves conservatives, and certainly not Bush hating leftists.
Right now they are all alienating their bread and butter listeners and readers, and they don't seem to have noticed, or cared if they have.
I'm sure glad there are rational folks still posting at FR. If not, there would be no place at all for folks like us.
Off to work now. See y'all later!
BUMP! Have a wonderful day!!!
Do the photos come in, and stay in order? I had saved all the photos I wanted and when I couldn't find the matching captions I had saved and went back to get them, the photos were gone or buried by a ton of new ones around 7ish. It took a lot of extra time.
Oops.........missed your name in my last post, Dolphy. Sorry!
He is a man of integrity. Others have told me that when he says something like that, one of his aids is right there and immediately hands them a card with a contact name and number to the WH. I think they also make note of what was said to whom. Amazing stuff and the troops love him for it!
No, they don't stay in order... that's why I grabbed them this morning. There were a lot of photos yesterday. I am lucky today. :)
I haven't yet checked for First Lady, VP or Condi.
Next week, I'll get buried --- you'll abe able to post the Dose BEFORE that SOTU speech.
That makes sense. You know that there has to be some system in place for things to be remembered like this. I am so happy for this family to have had this neat interacttion with GWB. The thought of this Marine standing up for his CIC just gives me chills and tears. We are so blessed to have such people serving our country.
Wolfstar, GEM and snugs all told me that captions are really only needed to identitfy the others in the photos with POTUS, but I just cut and paste the captions as I snag each photo. After I have them all, then I decide which ones to keep or to post. It seems mundane to post "President waves as he boards Marine One for..." but I post it anyway...lol.
Since I don't listen to Sean, I just received a phone call referring to the Sean Live thread from yesterday. Unbelievable! First post about the last hour is here...

Pay special attention to posts: 318, 428, 436 and 470-500.
NEVER will I listen to Sean again!
By next week I will HOPEFULLY have a little more time if you need help with the SOTU thread.
The captions I really needed were the ones of the First Lady and Condi.
I'm going to go search for photos of them now.
When I prepare the Dose, I do so in an HTML-based Email to myself and save it in my Drafts folder. As for the photos, this is what I do for each one that has a caption (for example).

[and in this space I copy and paste the tiny photo from Yahoo so I can tell which photo goes with which caption] For example, and remember, I don't copy the image location, I drag my cursor over the image, copy it, and paste it into my draft Email to myself:
Usually at Yahoo, the newer photos are posted at the top. Sometimes they are all jumbled up on Yahoo as to a the time taken. If there is a significant train of events the day I post, and it would help to have them in order, I try to set them in order by when they were taken. It isn't that crucial to the Dosers being able to understand what happened when if you have basic captions, and the use of captions does cut down on the time spent arranging them in an order.
One thing that helps me when preparing the Dose is to always put my captions in the same place. I put them above the photos so folks can tell before they scroll down what they are about to see, but whether you use above or beneath, by keeping them in the same place, you know at a glance what goes with what.
