Nifong a Topic at State Bar Council (and Feds Decline to Act for Now)
Eyewitness News 11 ^ | 1/16/07

This week Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong could be slapped with more charges related to his handling of the Duke Lacrosse case.

This week the State Bar Council will be holding its quarterly meetings in Raleigh. During this time, the agency could add ethics charges against the Durham district attorney.

Nifong recused himself from the Duke Lacrosse case shortly after the state bar filed an ethics complaint against him last month. He's accused of misconduct for statements he made to the media last spring.

In a letter obtained by Eyewitness News, defense attorney, Joe Cheshire requested to meet with Nifong in March about the statements.

"I do not understand why you will reportedly speak to the media in such certain, condemning terms before all the evidence is in, but you will not have the courtesy to meet or even speak with a representative of someone you have publicly condemned," Cheshire stated in the letter.

Nifong could also face additional charges for withholding DNA evidence that was favorable to the accused players. Evidence that is now in the hands of the state's Attorney General.

"We accept these cases with our eyes wide open to the evidence, but with blinders on for all other distractions," Roy Cooper said.

The State Bar Council meets today.

The council will decide this spring if his public comments about the case were a violation of the professional rules of conduct. Nifong's ethics meeting is scheduled for May.

No Federal Probe

The U.S. Attorney General's office has responded to Congressman Walter Jones' request for a federal probe of the Duke Lacrosse Case.

In a letter delivered Thursday, Alberto Gonzales' office wrote that it would be, "Premature to initiate a federal investigation pending a criminal trial."

This means the Attorney General will not be getting involved in the case at this time.

Yep. Peterson is toast, for her behavior. She will, IME and however, be a useful "Cindy Sheehan" clone.

I wished I had saved those images to my computer. I can still see the bathroom, in memory recall.

And then the "fake fingernails" found in the wastebasket. That bathroom was so tiny, there was barely room for a 6ft tall person to have noticed these, much less stooped down to pick them up. Sure, the boys cleaned the place up; and none of their DNA was found on those fingernails.

CGM was also alleged to have gone into the bathroom, talked on her phone while doing her nails.

That sounds right, with the late Ed Bradley. There were other new images too.

"Ditto is so into defending the treatment of the Duke players, I have to wonder if he/she is actively involved in the case on the side of the prosecution."

Maybe, but just as likely to be a simple troll.

I love it when a well written reply shuts a troll up!

What well written replies? I have been accused of being part of Nifong's team. One tin-foil guy went off on me about the CIA secret airline run by some drug running African dictator who control politics in Durham. I ask what reasons the feds have to get involved now and what civil rights have been violated and all I get is diatribes about Rodney King and not-so-subtle racism saying that if these students were black, the DoJ would have already been involved. That maybe so, but the point is you people are demanding that big brother step into a state issue that has not even been in a state court yet. Fine. Who the hell needs state courts? Do we even needs states? Let's just let big fat Uncle Sam solve all of our problems. Is that what you want?

And a troll? Check my born on date newbe. I have been here since the beginning and your's say you have been here only a couple of months. After nearly a decade here, I have learned not to waste too much time beating dead horses or getting into pissing battles with one-issue fanatics.

I concur with your point.

"...you people are demanding..."

I do not, nor have I ever, called for anything -- much less anyhting remotely like what you described in your rant -- on any thread.

Regardless of how long in the tooth you happen to be, my observation is that your behavior on Duke-related threads is that of a troll.

It was an attempt at humor using the old NOW saying from the 60s/70s and referencing my tagline. :-)

Bitter Bierce; neverforget1

Bierce, I didn't catch that. Ah, yes, e e cummings, Master of the Language. "Ma" bad," as ebony might be prone to say. See, she's got an edjumacation, and I was dimwitted enough to miss that.

My sweet, dear, neverforget, you'll just have to "wing it," as ebony appears to have done. Were it me, if I truly believed that a grievous, egregious wrong had been done to me or mine, I would suggest the Bible or, dare I say it, my Rosary. After what we went through and the aftermath of our tragedy, I -- as a convert -- have never learned to meditate on the "Mysteries" faster or longer, but what the heck? Those are just the tools of the white man to justify his bad behavior.

Saw a show on EWTN last night about St. Vincent de Paul -- WOW did that hit home. Poor guy lived to 84 years of age, by the Grace of God alone. Doubt if he knew if he was "afoot or on horseback" (sorry, that's an old hillbilly expression) for most of his life. He just kept keepin' on, keepin' on. Now, that might be something to meditate on -- but no, on second thought, another tool of the racists, I'm sure.

My observation is that you are slandering me. Show some other Duke related threads I have been involved in that leads you to that conclusion or retract that statement.

"...you are slandering me. Show...or...retract..."

Read as: "Do what I say, or else...blah, blah, blah"

Not gonna happen. Save it for the courtroom, Counselor.
