Los Angeles, CA (BANG) - It seems like more and more Hollywood women are taking a trip to the gun shop.
Now, adding herself to the list, Alicia Keys says she is considering buying a gun for protection.
The singer-and-actress had to learn to shoot in her new movie "Smokin' Aces" and now she is confident handling a firearm she is seriously contemplating buying one for her own safety.
Keys - who makes her big screen acting debut in the film - said, "I've never owned a gun, but I'm seriously considering owning one now. God forbid, if anything happened I would be prepared."
Last week, the star confessed to carrying a knife for protection when she was a teenager growing up in tough New York neighborhood Hell's Kitchen. Keys isn't the only female celebrity currently considering buying a gun.
Last week, Renee Zellweger revealed she wants to purchase a firearm. The "Miss Potter" actress finds living alone "scary" and has considered buying a weapon to make her feel safer.
The 37-year said, "People usually mean no harm, but it's scary if there is a car idling outside your house in the middle of the woods at four in the morning. You realize you can't live there any more. It's sad, but that's how it works. It's no big deal. It's just a job hazard. I don't want to own a gun, but sometimes I do think about it."
I thought she already had a nice pair of guns?
She is beautiful, and an awesone singer and musician.
Good for her. Colonel Colt would be proud.
If I was a celeb, and wanted to purchase firearms for protection I sure wouldn't announce it to the world.

Alicia Keyes is Making Sense
So, guns are the new "African Child" of Ho'wood?.......
I was thinkin' 'bout Alicia Keys, couldn't keep from crying
When she was born in Hell's Kitchen, I was living down the line
I'm wondering where in the world Alicia Keys could be
I been looking for her even clear through Tennessee
It was not a dangerous neighborhood then at all.
I worked a few blocks from that neighborhood and took clients to dinner in Hell's Kitchen restaurants frequently in the 1996-1998 timeframe.
This was at the height of Giuliani's success at policing NY neighborhoods.
She was 15-17 during that time and attending an exclusive NYC magnet high school.
LOL!!

rofl what a bimbo. Guess she definitely couldn't live where I do....with the shootouts on the streets and all.
She is a passable but not particularly impressive pianist.
Congrats on getting the Dylan lyric up there first.
I guess I'm just old, I've never heard of her.
Good for her though, every law abiding citizen should own and carry.
;o)
Did she do "Unbreak My Heart"? I thought the chorus of that song was some of the best lyric writing in years.
I would. People would know not to mess with me.

Exactly what I was thinking. Ya beat me to it.
