This is funny. I don't have any sympathy for the husbands. After all, they married them.

I've got a trophy wife.

I married her 18.5 years ago, she gave me three beautiful kids, stuck with me when times were bad, puts up with my silliness.

Yup. I've got a trophy wife!

Apparently there's a new take on "having it all" – and it's not what the majority of us understood it to mean. Back in the 1970s, it meant effortlessly maintaining a beautiful home, entertaining in grand style, raising perfect children, keeping the husband sweet and having some sort of career in order to create financial independence.

Oh. I thought "having it all" meant knowing, loving and serving God in this life so that we could be happy forever with him in the next, and reasonably happy in this life.

Actually, I didn't learn that until later in life. In the '70s I held the same worldly ideas.

Matthew 7:13

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

Once upon a time, there was a truth, universally acknowledged, that a man with a powerful job and a beautiful house must be in want of a wife – preferably of the trophy variety.

These gentlemen went wrong in simply failing to realize that "trophy" and "trophy wife" are not synonyms. ;)

unless you marry an equal who's going to pay her own way, you will end up with a lazy, indulgent, over-pampered slug

Not if you marry a good hard working Christian woman who had good parents. It won't matter if she works or stays home and works.

"Relationships are meant to be about compromise, but she is more about selfishness."

Bingo! And the knife cuts both ways.

The Feminist movement is all about "selfishness". One doesn't have to be a feminist to be selfish. But it does guarantee it!

And they think they're going to get sex from a woman who herself is flying to London on business and working all day then comng home to work get some sleep. She will just be substituting office time and meetings for the nap and bookclub. She will travel, have the office to go to daily but she will still want the me-time for spa, nails, and boozey lunches or dinners. You might not have to outlay as much cash but you won't get any more time and attention. Most likely even less. The mistake these men made was probably picking airheads who haven't a thought deeper than nails, hair and clothes. They should have married smarter women.
From my own experince...
I grew up with an executive mother back in the day when most mothers stayed home. She was frequently away on business. We had a housekeeper. My father was there every night as he was an engineer and worked locally. When our housekeeper was off, Daddy cooked. Al he knew how to make was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. While we had much more money and material things than my friends had, they had mothers, who were available. My mother was a phone call away. My father was proud of her, she is very smart and did well in what was a man's field. She was frequently asked who's secretary she was? Would I want her life? NO Women have been sold a bill of goods about having it all. You can't do all of it and do it all WELL. Something or someone suffers.

I wanted to be a wife and mother and I didn't want anyone else doing my job. I was a proud stay at home mother. I don't have a housekeeper, a nanny nor did I have boozy lunches with friends. I homeschooled. I did occasionally get my nails done.
Our children are grown now and our last is in college. I devote my time to my husband and my community. I still occasionally get my nails done, but I seldom even have time for that. I have yet to have a boozy lunch.

Let me get this straight: The men are gallant, noble and gentlemanly. The women are toxic, vacant, vain, boring, indulgent and lazy.

I'm glad to see not too many posters are sympathizing with these arrogant, selfish, complaining men.

Simply more fallout from the post-Christian, "it's all about me" mentality that now permeates every facet of society.

Not to worry. Islam will soon take over Britain. These women will be sold into slavery and become concubines whence they will be soundly beaten by their husbands several times per week.

And a jolly good thing it will be.

Yeah, but my wife was a hard working nurse at the time. I did not know she would retire at 26.

"My wife," chipped in husband number two, "gives over the whole of the weekend to pursuing what she calls 'me time'. She goes to retreats, yoga mini-breaks, a spa, a health farm, even art classes… all of which I pay for, of course. What do I get back in return? Nothing."

"Dad got hosed!"

Boo hoo. They married beautiful women with a taste for money and are shocked to find that after years of marriage the women use their money to hold on to their looks and live a lavish lifestyle.

Sort of like marrying Lance Armstrong and then complaining he spends too much time and money on the bike.

It's always the guy's fault, isn't it?

Unmarried men, Freepers...listen to this poster very carefully...this is the attitude you can expect from your wife, your ex-wife, their friends, and society. If you hit your wife, you're a beast...if she hits you, you must have provoked it.

These "ladies" will have you, legally and financially speaking, by the gonads. Think carefully before you put yourself in that position.

Oh, this is ludicrous. Yes, there are some horrible parasitic wives on both sides of the Atlantic, and some poor beleaguered husbands. But I know quite a few Englishwomen who are fixed like this and the idea of anyone post-1935 saying "drinkie-poo" is insane. I think the author has been reading about Bertie Wooster and now she thinks the rich middle class talks like that.

They may treat their staff badly, too, but it's way too difficult and too much trouble to find new staff for a woman to fire staff casually. This tale is fictional.

This is funny. I don't have any sympathy for the husbands. After all, they married them.

Speaking on behalf of the aformentioned demographic, this sounds fairly spot-on. Society and law have become so vaginized and gamed toward the woman-as-victim as to make marriage a pretty stupid undertaking for the successful man. The "it's their own fault" rationale does not address the issue.

Fix America now. Repeal the 19th. :-)

I'd settle for limiting the vote to property owners
