RALEIGH, N.C. A man suspected of decapitating his 4-year-old daughter and leaving the body for her mother to find in their suburban home was arrested in Washington, D.C., early Saturday, authorities said.
Investigators have not found any history of domestic or mental health problems at the home, and still have no leads as to a possible motive in the killing, said Clayton police Lt. Jon Gerrell.
Amber Violette told police Friday evening she had found her daughter, Katlin, with her head severed from her body, police said.
An "edged weapon" believe to have been used in the killing was found in the house, though Gerrell declined to give more details.
"This is devastating for the whole community as a whole, and it's the most horrific thing I've seen in 13 years of police work," said Sgt. S.P. Lapsley. "That a father could do this to his child, I just can't believe it."
John Patrick Violette's vehicle was found at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and investigators learned he had taken a flight to Washington. Deputy U.S. marshals arrested the 37-year-old after police tracked his credit card to the hotel, Lapsley said.
Police said Violette, 37, would be held in Washington pending an extradition on a murder charge expected to be filed in Clayton, about 15 miles southeast of Raleigh. The U.S. Marshals Service said an extradition hearing is expected to be held Tuesday.
The mother is not a suspect in the investigation, and Lapsley said police don't expect to make any more arrests.

You engage in deliberate torture, you are endangering your soul, IMHO.
Why go there? If someone needs killing, kill them. Taking joy from it is sick, and dangerous.
Do you think that the ad hominem attacks you are engaging in are impressing your readers?
If you do, you are mistaken.
Thanks for the post. Have to admit I had to look up the word "pusillanimous"
Ding, ding, ding...We have a winner.
My God. :*(
Prayers for that poor woman and her family and friends. What a horror to have to live through. :*(
I forgot to add prayers for this poor child and her mother. I just hope the mother will be alright, I know if it was my child I would be losing it. My heart goes out to her and her baby. This is so sad...~~Pandora~~
I have no problem with your statement - I have had to put a number of dogs down, for good a sufficient reasons. Once, I had to put down a blue-eyed, vociferious husky, for killing farm animals. I had to do it, there was no other option.
That dog was the most intelligent animal I ever saw.
Still, I killed her, because I had to.
Then I cried. I wept like a baby.
Sometimes you do what you have to do.
And you pray for forgiveness.
Taking joy in it does not make you better, it makes you worse.
i know that was very painful for you :(
I wasn't aware that you were the representative for "my" readers. And no, I don't care what "my" readers think.
Sorry about your dog...I have been through that too. I wouldn't take joy in killing...I just think our justice system is getting too soft. If you murder and its not self defense..... then I think you need to go. I hate the child murderers the most. I just don't think there is a need to keep them alive.
I agree with that.
No, I am not, and clearly, you don't.
I say put him in Ol' Sparky. Don't wet the sponge.
Seriously, I think it's personally reasonable that people would be so shocked and horrified by this atrocity that they would wish all kinds of punishments on this creep, because we are better than him and know that we would never sink to his level. It's a cathartic release; it doesn't mean any of us would actually do any of this stuff.
Like dipping him in honey and having him being eaten alive by fire ants, or giving him a one-way ticket strapped to a MOAB and dropped over the desert, or blindfolding him and making him play in traffic at rush hour, or... : )
Well, you could put him in the general population...they have a particular hatred of child killers in prison...
Oh My God, Howlin. Listen to her voice. She is struggling to breathe, much less talk. My heart breaks for her. A 4 year old is but a baby, they still think you hung the moon.
Is that his mug shot?? Creepy.
I understand your point. But the problem with being understanding about revenge porn is it systematically desensitizes people to violence and makes the unacceptable more likely. If you need any further evidence of it then you need look no further than this event. Mr. Violette exercised his revenge fantasies on his wife by killing his child and leaving the body for his wife to discover. He succumbed to his urge for revenge. The distinction between a fantasy and a reality occurs when the impulse is acted upon. The best way to resist the impulse to violence is to stop fantasizing about it.
It's time to repeal the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause of the 5th Amendment.
There is difference between lacking an emotional reponse, and being in control of that response. I have the same knee-jerk reactions that end in violence as most sane people, however I'm in control of them and they stop at being mere impulses.
That includes putting said reactions up for public view. Being a fully adult human, I'm capable of recognizing my baser instincts as being baser and dismissing them before I start typing. It beats engaging in revenge porn any day of the week.
