HE is a media darling, a paparazzi target and a source of inspiration for millions of Democrats who dream of retaking the White House in 2008.
But Senator Barack Obama, the charismatic African-American who is shaking up the presidential primary race, has not impressed some of Americas most powerful black activists.
Civil rights leaders who have dominated black politics for much of the past two decades have pointedly failed to embrace the 45-year-old Illinois senator who is considering a bid to become Americas first black president.
At a meeting of activists in New York last week, the Rev Jesse Jackson, the first black candidate to run for president, declined to endorse Obama. Our focus right now is not on whos running, because there are a number of allies running,...
The Rev Al Sharpton, the fiery New York preacher who joined the Democratic primary race in 2004, said he was considering another presidential run of his own...
Harry Belafonte, the calypso singer who became an influential civil rights activist, said America needed to be careful about Obama: We dont know what hes truly about.
The unexpected coolness between the old civil rights guard and the new Democratic hopeful has added an intriguing twist to the budding rivalry between Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton...
They are basically jealous, said a Democratic strategist who has not yet decided which candidate he intends to support. Theyve been toiling in the trenches for decades, and along comes this son of a Kenyan farmer and suddenly hes measuring the drapes in the Oval Office.

He doesn't rhyme. ....nor does he holler.
Ooooooooh, sounds like they're JEALOUS!
The next two years should be entertaining.
The DUmmies can not blame everything on us anymore.
I really don't understand what the big deal with this empty suit is. He represents all that is liberal. There's not a dime's worth of difference between him and any other out-of- controldemocrat in congress. He's basically a light-skinned black man which in and of itself makes him acceptable to the democratic party racists.
There is nothing there . . . no there there. Hollow. Empty.
He has as much substance as Paris Hilton (altho she's a tad better looking)
HE is a media darling,
So is McPain.
Kerry, Clinton, Biden, Dodd, Bayh, ad nauseum....and that's just the beginning.
They do not mention his mother nor step-father who raised him...put him thru school, etc.
Is true, is true. If you're looking for some serious rhyming, look no further than my personal favorite: Louis Jordan .
More disgusting than entertaining... I still cannot bear to watch them.
Many of the DUmmies hate Hillary and do think that she can not win a general election.
Obama is just an anti-Hillary.
IMO
The DUmmies will be attacking each other very hard for a while.
Hillary has those FBI files under her bed.
She will start releasing the files as needed.
Harry's not black, he's a RED Communist. Harry thinks Obama isn't a radical revolutionary willing to wage open war against the US.
Harry Belafonte Calls Black Republicans 'Tyrants'
By Marc Morano
August 08, 2005
Atlanta (CNSNews.com) - Celebrity activist Harry Belafonte referred to prominent African-American officials in the Bush administration as "black tyrants" at a weekend march, and he also compared the administration to Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany.
He has no chance, he's a SMOKER!!!
Jack
The leftists see him as "their" Reagan. Clinton/Carter have no legacy. Their last stallion was Kennedy (and thank goodness the last senator elected to the Presidency pushing 50 years ago) and he was WAY post WWII.
The dems and MSM are beyond desperate.
Hes a young man in many ways to be admired, Belafonte said.
Obviously very bright, speaks very well, cuts a handsome figure. But all of that is just the kings clothes. Whos the king?
You're right about that --- drip, leak, tick, tock.
This all about not pissing of the Clintons.
He's not a real African-American because he's not descended from slaves.
