I am interested to learn how he controlled the older boy to keep him for four years. It reminds me of this movie. The boy was kidnapped and was told he was not wanted at home and he was young enough to believe it. Yet I don't know how an 11 year old would believe that from a stranger. Wow I wonder how many other boys this perv has abused. Thankfully the police spotted the vehicle. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097553/

Yes, I hope that they can get this type of information out to the public - so parents & schools can educate children on submission/brainwashing techniques that might be used on them in the unfortunate event that they might be similarly abducted.

It's sad & frightening that children have to be taught this kind of stuff, but we all need to know how these monsters operate.

It is surprisingly easy to brainwash people. Even adults. You just have to know what buttons to push and I have yet to see a perv who was not a master manipulator. After all they have managed to convince themselves that what they do is ok so they have plenty of practice at it.

That was a very sad story. Of course we were all thinking about it when we heard about this boy. Steven had a very hard time adjusting when he got home. He got into some trouble, and wound up dying, I believe, in an accident.

His brother, Cary Steyner, ended up to be a serial killer.

So next time you think you're family is screwed up, think about this one.

He looks very pale for a Missouri boy. I know there's a report that he was outside once pitching a tent with the perp, but his skin tone says he wasn't outside much.

One of the things they tell their victims is that they will kill other family members. Having been traumatized by the predator, the threat is easily believable.

The movie was based on a true story, btw.

I remember hearing that Shawn told someone else (a neighbor?) that his mother was killed by a drunk driver. Maybe the perv convinced Shawn of that. He may have also convinced Shawn that the stepfather had no custody of him now that the mother was dead. Maybe he told him he would be even worse off in foster care.

Who knows? That sure would explain the way Shawn kept staring at his mother during the press conference. He did seem happy to be home.
