Jan. 12, 2007— District Attorney Mike Nifong has requested that he have himself removed from prosecuting the Duke Lacrosse rape investigation, ABC News has learned.
Interesting that he wants out after the AG has initiated an investigation and asked for his resignation.
Perhaps he's starting to get a clue . . . . . it could be his first.
I agree. People's reputations get ruined and people like Nifong walk away unscathed. They should get slammed as a lesson to those who would use politics for advancement.
Finally, something Nifong and I agree on.

Interesting that he does this after retaining a criminal defense attorney for his disbarment proceeding. Maybe he had a little "come to Jesus" meeting with his counsel.

It will be interesting to see whether his fellow Dimocrat Roy Cooper will be his buddy and take over the case. I suppose the Duke defendants will get some sort of justice sooner if Nifong is still at the wheel when the judge throws out the case. Sounds like the guy who did the DNA testing is in deep trouble as well. One can always hope that this touches even more of the Democrat establishment that has been this state's slumlord since before the civil war.
That's an archaic way of looking at things, I'm afraid. Maybe , early in the 20th century, that would have been the honorable thing to do (almost everywhere except Japan). But nowadays, it's perfectly acceptable to resign in disgrace, beat the rap, write a self-serving book about the affair, and retire rich.
He says he wants the ACCUSER to get a fair trial. What's with that?
...and the legal precedents set by agitating for legal witch hunts against whitey will surely be used against innocent blacks. Going by the ethnic makeup of your typical prison population, what are the odds of that happening? Pure stupidity.
In an earlier era, he would have been handed his pistol and given a few moments of privacy to do the right thing.
