It reminds me of a show that was with Dr. Phil or 20/20 or something like that. They did a hidden camera test to see if kids would fall for child lures. All the parents warned their kids about strangers and thought for sure their kids wouldn't fall for the lures --- yet most of them did. I'm not suggesting Shawn fell for a lure. We don't know what happened to him. I'm just saying you can teach your kids all you want, but that is no guarantee they will act the way you predict. It is disheartening to see so many smug people blaming Shawn, but is also refreshing to see some many Freepers (most of whom I'm sure are moms) stand up to them.
I, also have seen experiements done, with children who were warned and warned by their parents what not to do, and what to do, when someone tries to lure them away...and almost every child, flunked the test...all of the parents were very confident before the test, that their child was so well informed, that they would never fall for any trick...if I remember correctly, it took no more than just a very few minutes for the children to be completely fooled, and they willingly walked away with complete strangers...
All of the parents involved in the test, were flabbergasted, that their child flunked the test...it was very revealing...
So your point is well taken...and I agree with it...you can teach your children all you want, that is still no guarantee that your child will react in the way, you want him to...
It is important to teach your children how to deal with these things, and teach them often...its just as important, that if your child fails to live up to your expectations, that you dont blame him for it, if something bad does happen...
The thing that infuriated me most about Bubba the Heel (in addition to the fact that he suggested Shawn was retarded) is that he blamed the parents, suggesting that they raised him to be a girly-man and, if he had been raised properly, he would have been able to fight the monster off. I asked him if that meant Ronald Reagan, who destroyed the Soviet Empire without firing a shot, was a pathetic parent who raised a girly-man, too, and the coward never answered me.
bubba the heel was a total idiot! Everything about him was about him. He would recall when he was 11 and stated that at 11 he would have done differently than Shawn. I was getting tired of him projecting himself on what Shawn should have done!
Yep. I couldn't believe the nerve of him questioning the intelligence of Shawn, while displaying his own ignorance.
I am not a mom, but certainly love kids. As an aunt of many and a teacher for 43 years I can tell you that what you said is so true. I know that teachers spend time teaching young children how to stay safe through "stranger danger" type programs with local police officers visiting classrooms to talk to kids about safety issues. Although these lessons included telling children to "tell someone they trust" about abuse, that isn't enough. Children need to know more about what to do or try to do if they are abused and/or kidnapped. Maybe now more of that kind of training will be done by parents and the schools. I was just so happy that the little girl from OK saw her chance to escape her kidnapper and acted!
JUst heard on the Fox line up starting in ten minutes Devlin has spoken out and is telling his side of the story and apparently it is shocking!

What's his side of the story...that after he kidnapped them at gunpoint they asked to be raped and molested....
I can't stand the fact that the news is going to let this guy speak out and they are going to listen and report! how sick and what a thing to do to these kids!

That is the thing...people dont want to admit that perhaps their own child, may be fooled...its almost as if, since their own child may be fooled, the parents look at themselves as being poor parents...which is of course, nonsense...
I am sure, that the children who have been snatched, have been told, time and time again, to never trust strangers, to never go with strangers, to not even go with people they might know(after all, family friends have molested and killed the children of folks that they knew)...
Look at how many folks blamed the father of Jessica Lunsford for her death, because he was not at home at the time of her abduction...I even remember one poster on FR, blaming Elizabeth Smarts family for her willingness to be abducted, because she was raised a Mormon, and thus believed in polygamy, and was willing to be abducted to be some mans bride..there was another little girl, that was snatched and raped and murdered, and I cannot remember her name, but I do know that people blamed her mother for the girls death, because the girls mother had a daytime job(oh the horrors of actually having a job)...it was said, that because the mother was at work, and had the grandmother watching the little girl, that it was the mothers fault for the abduction...It is mind boggling to me, that people, supposed adults, will find a reason to blame a child for their abduction, or blame the family for any of a list of ridiculous reasons...the blame lies only on the shoulders of the person who carried out the abduction...
Blaming the child or the childs family, is obscene...

it is the NYpost and there is to be a big bombshell in the case come out tomorrow in the news, but will be reported tonight on the show! I will report as soon as it is reported.
here is what i got from the report about Devlin from the NYpost reporter.
He doesn't know how to explain himself. He is upbeat and doesn't seem to understand the situation he is in. He seems like a big kid, friendly and never got anywhere in life. he would not speak about Shawn or the case whatsoever and wouldn't comment on if he likes women or if he is gay.
