Nifong recusing himself from Duke Kidnapping and Sexual Assault case

Just heard at the top of the hour. Nifong is recusing himself from the Duke Case as prosecutor.

According to the local news, he met with his staff after hours last night; one thing I think they may have discussed was the beginnings of calls for his staff to "come clean" and "come forward" lest they be charged/sue too.

Au contraire. There will be a division of lawyers who would pay good money to go after this guy. THis case is so far beyond hte professional courtesy stage it's ridiculous.

That is a good point. Nifong is just trying to survive now. Nifong has to worry about what they might say.

The Bar case does not even touch on the issue of the concealment of the DNA evidence from the defense. If the Bar association is not content with its current case against him and takes this up he may be through.

I am using all my cell phone time this weekend, I guess. Yes, the local media is reporting that now. I understand that the NBC affiliate, Channel 17, actually said that the defense served the subpoena.

The bar has to take up the concealed DNA issue. They can't be seen as just passing on the issue if they want to maintain any worth or credibility with the public, especially since at least one former legislator is seeking legislation that would add oversight of DAs to the AG's office.

I disagree. Lawyers are a disloyal lot to begin with. Second, one of the moms of the players has already implied Nifong will be sued with her statement that this is going to plague him for the rest of his life.

Isn't that the ultimate bombshell? I would hope Nifong and Meehan both end up in prison for conspiracy and obstruction of justice, unless other charges can be added.

Don't know if you've gotten an answer yet, but an earlier post said that Finnerty's lawyer sent the subpoena to Nifong's office, and that it was served yesterday while Mangum was talking with him.

David Freedman, one of a handful of North Carolina attorneys with a sizable practice defending lawyers battling State Bar complaints, said today that he regretted comments he made on MSNBC's "The Abrams Report." "My opinion was just based on media reports," Freedman said. "As an experienced trial lawyer, I should know better than to base my comments just on what I had read."

All across the country, sh*thouse doors are swinging open, and shysters are heeding the call of one of their own.

Nifong will walk without a trial.
