Just heard at the top of the hour. Nifong is recusing himself from the Duke Case as prosecutor.
OMG MONK that too funny when did Mike Tobin hang out with my governor
What a classic example of a POS
Of course, good ole Nifong would let this out at 5pm on the Friday before a national holiday. Somehow there's a bit of irony that he's doing so just before we celebrate MLK, Jr. Day.

DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 12 The district attorney has asked the state attorney general to take over prosecution of the sexual offense and kidnapping case against three former Duke University lacrosse players, an official involved in the case said today.
Michael B. Nifong, the Durham district attorney, faxed the request to Jim Coman, head of the state attorney generals special prosecution unit, today, the official said. Mr. Nifong decided he had no choice but to hand off the case because he faces a conflict of interest with ethics charges pending against him for his public comments on the case, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because there has yet to be an official announcement of the request.
Roy Cooper, the attorney general, is not expected to respond until early next week. If the attorney generals office agrees to take the case, it will remove a prosecutor who has been a lightning rod for criticism. The district attorneys request also indicates that the accuser still wants to press ahead with the case.
Mr. Nifong made the decision following lengthy conversations with the accuser in his courthouse office Thursday and again today, according to the official involved in the case.
Mr. Nifong had planned to recuse himself since shortly after the North Carolina State Bar filed an ethics complaint against him on Dec. 26, because that put him in a conflict of interest between defending his actions and prosecuting the case, the official said. But he had not been able to talk with the accuser about that because she had been in precarious health at the end of a pregnancy, the official said. The woman gave birth Jan. 3.

wow
Just got in and heard this on Fox!
I hope they listen. In many ways, the AA community has been it's own worst enemy for a number of years.
He is such a twerp. He also dropped the rape charges on a Friday afternoon. Does he think nobody will notice?
I had to pick today to take a nap!
Thought I was dreaming when I saw this.
Interesting info here, maggief. I have been on the phone with NC and they said the local news reported that NIFONG had subpoenaed Mangum and had met with her "for hours".
Bwahahahahaahahahaha!!!!!!!!
I hope Nifong doesn't think he will get away with his own illegal and unethical activities. He should still face charges filed by the NC Bar, in addition to conspiracy and unethical conduct along with the lab guy, Meehan.
Many reports say it was served by the defense. The LA Times had an article earlier today stating the defense was planning to serve her, which we now know she already was served. LOL
Was that subpoena served by the defense???????
But maggie, how can we believe anything Nifong says? It could be true; it could also be Nifong's delusional self talking.
I'm just not surprised.
Are you kidding me????
Hasn't she had her fifteen minutes of fame?
Oh, I'm POSITIVE the defense served her. What I was saying is that the local news media was reporting that it was Nifong that subpoenaed her. Do these people ever check sources? No.
We'll monitor the damned thing, that's enough!
What is REALLY funny is that the NC Attorney General's office is the leaker on the recusal request. And Nifong lied about it!! Caught red-handed!
