WASHINGTON — The White House fired back Friday at Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer's verbal slap at Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, calling the California Democrat's caustic comments about Rice's family life "outrageous."
Boxer lit into Rice on Thursday with bitter diatribe during a heated line of questioning before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee looking into Iraq policies. At one point, Boxer turned to the broad question of who pays the ultimate price for war. Rice has never married and has no children.
"Who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price. My kids are too old and my grandchild is too young," Boxer said. "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family. So who pays the price? The American military and their families."

Hmmm, not a bad idea you have there.....
Not really. Honestly, I'm not trying to be a hardass. I'm just curious why you wouldn't start your own business or firm or whatever it is you do. I haven't worked for anyone other than my clients for decades precisely because I got tired of boneheaded idiots being in charge. My thought is if you don't like your boss move on. No one is forcing you to stay a subordinate to a moron are they?
Just throwing it out there. I'm not trying to offend you or to tell you how to live your life. In my opinion it is easier in the US to move on than it is to complain.
Have a great New Year.
You are absolutely correct - I should start my own business, and actually, I freelance on occasion: the problem, of course, if you are an "entrepreneur" is health insurance, which is astronomical.
Happy New Year also.
You may wish to check it out. Also. There are lots of DMPO's (Discount Medical Plan Organizations) like Ameriplan or Care Entree that can substantially reduce your medical expenses. They will work with or without a health insurance plan. Check them out and don't let insurance agents scare you into thinking they aren't as good as insurance. In many ways they are better.
Point is, if this is one of the main reasons you are nervous about setting out on your own please don't let it be. America is still a great nation and full of opportunity. Often we let the liberal nah sayers frighten us into being good little lemmings but the more of us that step up and make things happen the less power liberals end up having.
Of course, as always this is just my opinion.
Obviously too many are. Yet, don't paint all us CA's with the same brush. Look at the voting color maps and you'll see that inland, and my own Sierras, is very red.
The population centers (SF, L.A., etc) unfortunately outnumber us.
It's why there is always talk about splitting the state. We'd prefer West (blue) vs East (red).
The same situation exists is NY. Upstate NY is very red, but NYC outnumbers those folks.
Ours is a representative government, but that representation isn't always fair and equitable...
Boxer for President!
Wouldn't that be great? She'd make Howard Dean's freakshow look tame. I mean, how great would the "Boxer Scream" be?
Unfortunately, upstate New York is changing also. And we have lost Long Island and Westchester County. When I think about it, I get ill!
Boxer's comments were just plain nasty, not to mention mean. She was implying (completely irrationally) that Rice somehow purposely avoided the entanglements of husband and children JUST SO she would never have to send her own kids to war. Huh? For all Boxer knows, it may be a source of deep and lasting pain to Secretary Rice that she has no children. In 2004, she underwent a uterine artery embolization (UTE) to get rid of fibroids -- often a last-gasp operation before having a hysterectomy. The fact that Rice has fibroids, and a bad enough case of them to warrant surgery, argues that she may in fact have wanted and even tried to have children, but was prevented from doing so by the fibroids. (As a veteran of the fibroid wars myself, I know how painful they can be and how they hamper fertility.)
Not to mention that the rabid feminists of the Left are constantly harping on the virtues of Choice for women -- which makes Boxer's comments not only mean but completely hypocritical.
I am ashamed (yet again) that Boxer is my representative.
While not disagreeing [not much at all, in fact], is that not like saying, "With the bucket of chum emptied, is the shovel full of dog excrement more stupid than the box of rocks? Even a rusted chain in salt water is smarter..."
i.e. - With these people there is no such 'animal' as "smarter".
A.A.C.
At first reading I thought you had made a typo transposing a couple of letters. But then I realized you were saying "CUT aNd RUN"
Condi is so different from boxer. Condi Rice is so dignified, honorable, deeply intelligent, full of vision, perspective and love for this nation than boxer will ever, EVER know. President Bush certainly knows how to appoint the best...and his choices have probably saved a great deal more within this country that we will ever know.
So different from Condi is boxer, that it is laughable on its face to think that boxer could hold forth in a conversation with condi without resorting to typical liberal crap. boxer hits below the belt because that is WHERE SHE LIVES-in and outside of her office.
What is so true to the dimwits creed is they want everyone to be childless; so it suprises me that Boxer would even go there. Oh, I forgot they lie so whichever statement is true at the time in their minds will be ultimate. (sarcasim)
