ATHENS, Greece - Police cordoned off streets around the U.S. Embassy in Athens early Friday after an explosion inside the embassy compound.
Authorities searched nearby apartment buildings and a hospital amid reports that an explosive device may have been fired at the building. The blast smashed glass in the front of the building, near the U.S. emblem of the embassy.
"I heard a loud bang I didn't realize what was going on," said Giorgos Yiannoulis, who runs a kiosk near the embassy.

I just hope that someone takes responsibility for the action/the Greeks find out who did it soon. The not knowing, is actually worse than the action, now that we know there were no injuries.
I understand.

Projectile hits US embassy in Athens, causing minor damage, no injuries
A strong blast was reported shortly before 6 a.m. (4 a.m. GMT) at the US embassy in central Athens, with Greek authorities now investigating inside the compound, according to the US ambassador. "This attack came from the outside. There is no justification for such an act of violence," US envoy Charles Ries told reporters outside the embassy nearly two hours after the attack. Earlier, the US State Department confirmed that no injuries resulted from the incident. Ries added that he has not as yet visited the exact site where the projectile hit, which he called a "crime scene", and also declined to call the episode an "act of terror" for the moment, noting instead that it was a "very serious" incident.
