After listening mostly in vain to the President tonight and his new approach to Iraq, we thought it time to come out with a clear statement on the War Against Islam. Here it is: We are at war whether we like it or not. There is no hiding from this enemy. Either we lock him out and go after his strongholds or we cower as he picks us apart piece by piece.
We listened to the President this evening. Nothing he said was convincing nor did it address in any serious or detailed way what he is going to do about the most immediate problem in Iraq and further out in what should be, but is not, the War Against Islam. Lets first focus on the Global problem and then well return to Iraq in a follow-on essay. The following can be considered the SANE War Manifesto.

I fully agree.
But we still don't fight it as a war. Borders are open and we still allow Muslim immigration. During WWII, Germans, Italians and Japanese were barred from entry into this country. I take this idea that we are at war with Islam with a grain of salt until proven otherwise.

Yep, its time to quit calling this the WOT. The folks who want to kill us are Islamic. I am aware there are moderates, but they do nothing to rein in their fanatics. We are at war with Islam. Not our choice. Theirs.

I just posted the following on a related thread, but it has a place here too. I may be on the mark, off the mark, or just passing gas, but this is how I see our relationship with Islam today.
Our government lacks a key moral component. We've heard it from the left, heard it from the right, and for the center of our nation it is just plain commonsense. We shouldn't leverage our American values in exchange for business.
The elected of our government are more responsive to business interests than the people. That's not to say they are bad people. Business is the foundation that placed their names before the voters, and business is therefore naturally that which they avow to before all else, but it is at odds with the American people.
So long as Saudi Arabia, and other gulf states, provide oil for our nation, this is how long our government will embrace and encourage Islam to flourish in our nation.
I've watched and listened to President Bush intently during his tenure. He has been like the weather vein set atop the barn of our nation. His presidency began with light breezes, but 9-11 brought about a strong damaging gust of wind from the east. There have been no similar gusts since, but there has been an ever growing wind coming from the east ever since.
President Bush has come a long way from his Islam being a religion of peace rhetoric over the years. He has either become aware, or is close to becoming aware of the threat Islam poses to the world, not just our nation. While not baring his teeth, he has warned our nation must seek energy independence. He has also warned last night of the formation of a "building a radical Islamic empire".
I don't recall a president being in a more precarious situation. If he bared his teeth, the Islamic gulf states would almost certainly respond by cutting oil supplies to the US and Europe, thus throwing the world into economic turmoil with catastrophic results. If he continues on his course of acceptance of Islam within our nation, we face social upheaval with catastrophic results. To date he has chosen the path that will not produce immediate results. He is not alone. Most of our elected have taken the same position in placing business interest above American values.
The real question is if the American people are strong enough to endure very hard economic times on a personal level to protect our way of life. I believe they are, but only when addressed with forthright truths about the calamities we face, and only when our elected have the strength to tell the business interests that placed them in power that American values come before business.
We have never faced such an enemy as Islam in that none of our previous enemies controlled vital resources our economy was dependent upon.

A very fine description of reality. I cannot imagine America waging this war in any sort of systematic way, however. It will be by fits and starts and incomplete campaigns and no campaign will attack the core of the enemy. Our best in Washington still seem to conceive it as law enforcement and education.

Islam is at war with us. We are not at war with Islam. Islam has no central Stalin against whom we can focus. Even the Nutjob is a just a particularly obnoxious Tito or Ceaucescu in this analogy. There is no real center of the evil. It is diffuse but all focused one way.

Yes you are, you may choose to ignore the war, but unfortunately the other side will not.
