Like a stack of scratched records, pundits repeatedly dismiss Rudolph W. Giulianis presidential prospects because of his social liberalism. True, the former New York mayors views on abortion, guns, and gays (despite his opposition to same-sex marriage) clash with those of many socially conservative Republican primary voters. However, socio-cons care about more than just these three important matters. On school choice, welfare reform, adoption, and quality of life, evangelicals cannot quibble with Giulianis achievements. His Bush-like immigration proposals are no more liberal than the presidents. Socio-cons also like to see violent criminals incarcerated and terrorists incinerated. No Rightist calls Giuliani Leftist on that.

Excellent summary of the accomplishments of a very effective big-city mayor.
Unfortunately (for Rudy), a selective look at his track record as mayor of New York isn't going to help him in a presidential campaign. As a liberal mayor from a city known for its radical left-wing politics, his prospects for success on the national level are severely hampered.

They also clash with many independents and, of course, with the platform of the Republican party itself.
Rudy is a Democrat with some moderate positions. He is against core conservative positions and against core Republican positions. Thankfully, the election disaster that would ensue if he were nominated will never happen.

"A record of accomplishment and competency"
And an unblemished record on anti-terrorism. Add economic and fiscal conservatism, and you see that Rudy shines.
Every time Rudy speaks out, it makes big news. On the left from his detractors who see how strong, and eloquent he is. They fear him.
And on the right, more and more people hear Rudy and are moved by his forthright clarity, intellectual grasp of these complex issues, and his extraordinary ability to explain these issues in a way that everyone understands, without pandering or talking down to people.

That is utter and complete bullshiite.
As bad as Dubya is on immigration, Bush never SUED the Federal Government. Then fought it, appeal after appeal after appeal, all the way to SCOTUS (and losing there too) all on the NYC taxpayers dime - all so city employers like the COPS, wouldn't have to cooperate with INS.
Ergo, anyone who would do that has ZERO credibility on the WOT. Because what Rudy was doing in effect was PROTECTING TERRORISTS.
He was also protecting Hispanic thug gang banging RAPISTS. Remember that Female Jogger? So there goes his 'Tough On Crime' facade too.
Rudy's 'image' is phony.

Giuliani also padlocked the citys Balkan-style offices of African-American/Carribean Affairs, Asian Affairs, European-American Affairs, Gay Community Affairs, Jewish Community Affairs, and Latino Affairs. Through these actions alone in Gotham, not Green Bay Giuliani enacted more equality before the law than the GOP Congress even debated in the 12 years between the 1994 Republican Revolution and 2006s Republican Rout. I have focused on people as people and not had the sense that their first claim on me is because of the group they belong to, Giuliani told Jonathan Capehart in the March 2, 1999 New York Daily News. They have a very, very strong claim on me as human beings. Well Well Well so much for the Rudy haters saying he gave or will give priority status to gays.

He was also protecting Hispanic thug gang banging RAPISTS. Remember that Female Jogger? He was also protecting Hispanic thug gang banging RAPISTS. Remember that Female Jogger? So there goes his 'Tough On Crime' facade too. You are so full of it! S As part of Giulianis now-legendary anti-crime crackdown, homicides plunged 67.9, mostly in formerly crime-plagued black and Hispanic neighborhoods. Asked once what he ever did for minorities, Giuliani replied: They are alive, how about we start with that? Indeed, the New York Post estimated that, absent Giulianis law-enforcement initiatives, 2,299 additional black New Yorkers would have been murdered between 1993 and 1998. As Giuliani told police cadets on February 16, 1994, the right to public safety was that eras single most important civil rights struggle.Americas Mayor did not manage all this in lily-white Provo, Utah, or right-wing Colorado Springs. Rudolph W. Giuliani courageously accomplished these things in a largely minority city notorious for its liberalism. Thats leadership.

He will not be nominated, because someone better will be. Who is that? Not McCain, certainly. It could I suppose be Romney, even with his slippery position on social issues as Governor of MA. Even though, as this article makes clear, Rudy does have some serious chops as an executive who actually got things done. The only guy I know of with similar executive ability and better social policy is Jeb. And everyone seems committed to the idea that his last name disqualifies him. Presidential "timber" doesn't grow on trees.

The American voters will elect a democrat for POTUSA if they think he is more conservative than the republican.
It would be so easy for a democrat to appear more conservative than Rudy, Romney or McCain!
If any of these three get the nomination for POTUSA, the rats with little effort will win.

What's Rudy's position on McCain-Feingold? That's a showstopper for me, and IMHO should be for any FReeper.

He is the only person I heard speak with clarity last night on why the President is doing the right thing; Rudy "gets it" when it comes to the WOT.

Rudy can never get elected because he's gonna make all gays get married, make all straight males dress like Marilyn Monroe, kill all the children with the guns he has grabbed from us gun-nuts, and have serial love affairs with every other female second cousin. /s
