Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and Rep. Thomas M. Davis III reintroduced the D.C. voting rights act yesterday in Congress, giving D.C. residents another chance to gain a House vote.
Mr. Davis, Virginia Republican, and Mrs. Norton, a Democrat and the District's nonvoting congressional delegate, co-sponsored the bill, which last year received bipartisan support in one committee.
Ilir Zherka of the D.C. Vote advocacy group said that he hopes for a full House vote in February and that the bill will be enacted by late spring.
The bill would give one vote to the District, which is predominantly Democratic, and another to Utah, a mostly Republican state.
If approved, the bill would increase the size of the House to 437 members and maintain the historic precedent that representation cannot be increased in Congress unless neither party clearly gains or loses power.

Add more DEMS and keep the power.
I remember discussing this decades ago with my father, so it's a longtime issue...The thing is the district is full of government largesse, fully in the handout pipeline...
It's bad enough that a similarly dysfunctional polity like New Jersey already has Senators and Congressmen - adding DC will assist nothing.
Regards, Ivan
I would gerrymander DC into a nearby district within Maryland (which is already Liberal..no need to upset the usually Red state of Virginia). and also alow them to vote for the Maryland Senators too....(no loss there either......)
DC does not deserve 2 senators of their own thats for shore....(neither does Puerto Rico).
When I see a protester in the city with the Taxation slogan, I tell them, "Why should we give you any more voting rights when you can't elect a decent mayor.
What's left of DC is geographically within Maryland; see a map.
Part of DC was already returned to Virginia and is now known as Arlington County. If DC no longer wishes to remain a unique federal enclave, it should revert back to the existing states. The drawn lines are easily erased.
This comes up every year, and has for many years. There is always the hope by racists like Norton that some day it will pass.
DC is a Fedarl enclave it gets much of its money from a Federal payout. It should stay just the way it is.
Many DC tags have No taxation without Reprsentation. Is that any worse than living as a Republican in Maryland where I am supposedly Represented by Mikulski and Cardin,or Steny Hoyer ?
I havent had representation in the Congress in my lifetime.
Adding DC will assist the worst type of politician who caters to the worst kind of voter. They don't want to stop until the rest of the country is as corrupt and mis-managed as DC.
Shall I quote the Constitution of the United States, Vaquero teclado? It is NOT a living breathing document. There is no Right to vote in the Bill of Rights.
Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns and the truth. NRA KMA
About 430 Representatives in the US House, and about 100 Senators, are de facto citizens of DC.
Yeah, they're really suffering for representation....
