Tell me about the '60s (vanity)

Posted on 01/09/2007 9:18:52 AM PST by HungarianGypsy

I am wanting to write a story based on a young adult in the 1960s. Since I was born in 1973 all I really know is what I studied in books. But, I want to get beyond love beads and LSD. I want to be able to write this as it really was. I know it's said if you remember the '60s you weren't really there. But, if anyone does remember I would appreciate reading your stories and facts. Thank you.

We went there on friday nights in the summer and swam in the sound accross the street, which was Baywille Ave. We lived about 3 blocks from there.

Why was Nixon re-elected by a landslide, then?

Because McGovern was somewhere left of John F'n Kerry.

David McCallum (Ilya Kuryakin) is on the TV show NCIS now. Took me months of watching it before I figured out where I remembered him from!

Thanx, Ol' Sox.

Talk about taking a nose dive. Must have hit one of my triggers in this thread. The meds do work. I'll be able to pull back up. Got my group on Friday and phone numbers if I run into difficulty. Plus, I have a wife, 2 dogs and 2 cats who are always glad to see me.

Does anyone remember "IRON LUNGS"

YES...that was my worst fear in life. I watched the movie The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio, with Julianne Moore, about a 60's housewife who enters all these sweepstakes...there's a character in an iron lung and she's quite cheery about it.

I never got a scar. When my Hubby was drafted they gave him another vaccination, since he didn't have the scar. They thought it didn't "take".

My little hometown was progressive and gave us our smallpox vaccinations on the inside of the arm, instead of leaving that scar on the outside for the world to see.

I can still see mine - *hanging down there*, lol. *thwapping the geezerette flab*

School lunch was 30 cents and milk was three.

The milk cartons also came with three differnt U.S. Presidents on each panel which presented a dilemma for me as a kid:

  1. Collect the cards? . . . . or . . .
  2. Use the empty carton to hide your leftovers because you weren't allowed to leave the lunchroom with food still on your plate.
