What the November Election Means for Black Americans
The New Coalition ^ | December 1, 2006 | Lee H. Walker

Republicans and President George W. Bush took a licking in the November 7 midterm election. The Democrats are now in charge of both houses--for the first time in 12 years.

In the aftermath of the election, I listened to black talk shows, read emails I received from black organizations, and read newspaper columns written by black commentators. One point was very clear. They cared little for what blacks were going to get out of this Republican defeat. The mission for this election seemed to have been, "just keep the Republicans out of office."

----snip----

While other racial and ethnic groups split their votes, giving some to Democrats and some to Republicans, everyone assumes blacks will vote Democrat. And the vast majority of us do, regardless of what the Democrats have done for us lately.

This sort of party-line voting has to stop. It's time we hold the Democrats accountable, and make them earn our vote. 2008 is only two years away. If the Democrats don't show us something, it should be good-bye, Democrats.

The reason that democrats take blacks for granted is the high percentage of votes they keep receiving from the black community.

I've been hearing this sort of talk for a long time. The Democrats do nothing but harm to blacks. The blacks slavishly support the Democrats.

I think Republicans should consider them a lost cause. Attracting Hispanics to Conservative politics is a more promising direction.

Considering their tendency toward religion/ conservative social values, I'd say it'd be worth a shot...

What the November Election Means for Black Americans?

Higher unemployment, higher taxes.

Another chance for the Dems to buy the black vote, and then fill all important positions with rich white folk.

That's exactly right, no matter what, they still vote for democrats. Just look at Steele in MD, that was one of the finest candidates running, a man the black community could really be proud of, and yet the blacks in MD ignored him and voted in a democrat. I'll never understand it.

The democrats treats blacks like the republican party treats the conservatives in their party: Vote for us or else. Maybe we'll throw you a bone.

Since you appear to believe in myths, let me point you in another direction to what I posted on another thread.

It means that blacks will continue to remain and be treated as second class citizens and a dependent ethnicity. That's what the democrats sell to them and apparently that's what the black voters continue falling for..

There are plenty of black republican leaders out there that continue to remain silent in the face of the damage being caused to the black population. Once in a while you'll hear one or another of those black republicans speak out, but their voices show no consistency, whereas, black democrat leaders are heard often and consistently. Until the black leaders and the black voters themselves get tired of the BS being fed to them, then there's not hope for them.

The reparations issue would be great.

I want to watch the Democrat Party make working Hispanic Americans, illegal aliens and recent immigrants from Africa pay more taxes to give black Americans a big windfall.

... look at Steele in MD ...

The really funny thing is that every time the blacks come out and vote Democratic in Maryland, they always complain about the lack of black Democratic statewide candidates. The Democratic party here always tells them "next time!" and they buy it!

Well, that was a nice cut and paste job. Other than copying other peoples' ideas - do you have anything of your own to say?

Cut and paste? Did you read my post? That others may think like I do is merely incidental. I live in the Hispanic community and interact in it in Spanish. You gringos seem to have a penchant for wishful thinking. You have no clue what you are talking about.

Mexicans do the jobs Black just wont do ????

More of a lie than the one talking about Americans...

Dems are heading off to hand benefits to 30 million illegals and the 100 million more they will bring in the near future. The pie is only so big and the Blacks will get even a smaller slice then.

But then Blacks have continued to vote for the people who dont really care about them and have fallen for the lip service and bandaids the Dems provide, so why stop now.

The dems play the race bait game every time. They know they can get by with false accusations against Republicans in the area of race...and other things, for that matter. What media agency ever brings any of them to the carpet for their remarks? The Republicans never exploit what they DO do well with blacks, and they forget that black radio talk shows support the dems and make them sound like heroes. Republicans are going to have to find a platform that allows them to show what they've done for black communities and black Republicans in office need to stand up and tell what their party does well. It's almost as if some of them are ashamed to be black.

70% of hispanics are Catholic, and we could make inroads in the areas of morality and abortion. I guess since you talk to people in Spanish, and have anecdotal evidence to back up your opinion must mean that's wrong. Btw, you really outed yourself as a classless piece of **** with that gringo nonsense.

It still doesn't change the fact that you don't know what you are talking about. The fact that most Latins on paper are Catholics means nothing. In particular when liberation theology is the norm among the lower classes. The catholic church even counts those who practice Santeria among it's ranks. I may also add that many leftists and communists in South America also claim themselves to be devout catholics. You should come to my neck of the woods and listen to some of the sermons in Spanish in any of the countless parishes where services are now held exclusively in Spanish. In addition, the catholic church has always been a redistributionist institution for much of the 20th century. The only common cause with conservatives is on the issue of abortion and opposition to divorce, outside of that it's opposition to capitalism is well documented. Maybe you should take the time to read some of the papal declarations and speeches during the last 50 years.

I feel the vibes of change as well. Just anecdotal evidence, but it's there. It's really human nature: people don't measure what they have against what they had in Mexico or wherever back home is, they measure it against what they see other people have here. They are listening and waiting for the right time--or the right candidate--to give them what they see as more of what others have.

I don't think they are right, of course. I don't believe in forcible wealth redistribution. But maybe some of the more obscene excesses of the rich can be voluntarily curbed. We really need a change of heart as a nation, away from out-of-control consumption. If everyone needs to be ahead of the Joneses, then there is absolutely no limit to greed and materialism.
