File under Suspicions Confirmed.
"I believe that getting the magazine on newsstands on Friday helps us set the news agenda"
I thought the role of the journalist was to report the news. This statement clearly shows that the liberal press has adopted a new role for itself.

This is the way things are going. I was in the supermarket checkout line up here in Canada and the TV GUIDE CANADA magazine had last print edition on its cover with a bunch of covers from the past on it.

I sometimes come across old "grown-up" magazines and wish I had such things to read now that I'm middle-aged.Yes, and if only there were a paper worth reading, nothing is better than sitting outside, with a nice cup of coffee, reading the Sunday paper. Or better yet, curled up in bed with the paper spread out all over. However, that whole scene is ruined by the anger raised by the blatant bias these days.

Briton Hadden was the primary creator of
Time magazine. But Hadden died young, at the age of 31. His partner, Henry Luce, then claimed the credit. Click below for more information, from my column written before this
NY Times article.

"In its current state, a thin weekly on increasingly thin paper..."
Having grown up in the south in the 30's and 40's I can recall the use of another thin paged, slick publication. The Sears Catalogue had a lot more copy, was more honest in its claims, yet it, too, turned into something most people substituted for toilet paper. Sanitation is not the issue that it was in the distant past, however, in my mind, Time Magazine would have qualified for the (roll) role.

Thick or thin---issued Fri or Mon---no matter.
Nobody's interested in what they might have to say.

I had the displeasure of looking at an issue of Time a few weeks back and was astonished at how bad it was. Aside from bias issues, it resembled an old Scholastic Reader from decades ago. Large pictures, seemingly random quotes in oversized print, and written for a low level reader.
Even a casual look at news magazines from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s clearly demonstrates that while we may be more educated as a culture, media seems insistent on dumbing things down almost to the point of parody.
PS - Are there still scholastic readers? I suppose they may have descended even further - relegated to only large pictures and sentence fragments in oversized fonts!

written for a low level reader
Too many big journalism outfits used to pride themselves at writing at a 10th grade level supposedly to enable every last American moron to properly comprehend propaganda. In retrospect it seems more probable limited rhetorical skills kept big journalists writing at a 10th grade level.
