Today the President met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Oval Office and later made a statement to the press.
Both the President and Vice President took part in a secure video teleconference with Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki from the newly-renovated Situation Room at the White House.
The President spoke with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) (L), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) (C) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Oh George W. Bush on a telephone conference call at the start of the 110th Congress
Today Vice President Dick Cheney took part in the Senate re-enactment swearing-in ceremony for the 110th Congress
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
I noticed at the funeral he did seem less free in his movements hope the surgery will benefit him greatly.
*sighs* I'm sure the Pres will veto anything that looks like cutting and running in Iraq. Anything else...we'll have to wait and see, I guess. I hope the remaining Republican members of the gang of 14 take a lesson from the way the Dems act when they're in charge. At least that press conference yesterday reminds us that the Dems get to deal with the anti-war whackos now :P
Thanks for the belly laugh on that one!
I have to tell you...that finally my husband mailed the package to you!!
Between the post office being closed for 3 days..and then my having the itty bitty one, I couldn't get it mailed.
So...I enlisted his help today.
I am sorry it has taken so long...but, soon you will be in possession of 12 boxes of Wheat Thins!!
Ping to #16
That works too :) Really, I'm kind of surprised by how I'm taking all of this. Ya know, when President Bush won re-election, I knew quite a few liberals who acted like they were going to DIE. I'm certainly disappointed. But the world didn't end. And there's always 2008. By then, I'll have graduated and can work on campaigns if I want to :)
***and another hopefull thought is that the President will finally use his veto pen......keep the faith....08 is just around the corner.***
He's already thratened to do just that. Hooray !
YES! You will have graduated!!!
Pres. Bush will also veto any fed. spending for embryonic stem cell research...even though Mitch McConnell just said on Hannity and Colmes that it will pass...because enough GOP Senators will vote for it..
(Mitch said he would NOT vote for it).
But, Mitch McConnell also said that he is in favor of the "Comprehensive" Immigration Reform bill...that SO many conservatives decided it was better for the dems to win...rather than support the GOP over.
So....this GOP Senate is NOT going to be very popular with the 100%ers.
Thanks for the Dose! I know you "had" to post pics of rats today. I hope there are none tomorrow. :)
...didn't even turn my tv today..
****
You and I must be kin. I couldn't go out, so I watched a tape of Monk reruns all afternoon.
My prayers for 41 --- I saw that article earlier. Thanks for posting the links.
LOL -- reruns of Murder She Wrote, here.
Also as I have said a few times in the last few days when you get to the level of President and Vice President there are so very few people around that appreciate various aspects of your life that can never be the same again and sometimes there is camaraderie if not real friendship in talking to people who share this unique experience.
Thanks!
Wow I had no idea about the hip surgery I didn't hear one thing about it on TV.
Thanks for the ping Snugs.
*grins* I can't wait! This would really be the perfect time to get involved in a campaign, if that's what I decide to do. I haven't decided yet.
Thank you so much Donna (the receptionist at work) and I will enjoy them.
I have complete turst and faith in any and all decisions you make for yourself!
Actually, I find the Right's incessant whining about THE VETO 'abit maddening.
Why would a rational person expect the President to veto legislation passed by a REPUBLICAN CONGRESS acting in consultation with the White House?
Additionally, why would any rational person expect the President to behave CONFRONTATIONALLY with Congress when he needs said Congress to FUND the WAR ON TERROR -- his first and really only priority for the last 5 years!
For the next two years, the President must still work with Congress (this time a HOSTILE Congress) so that Congress will continue to FUND the WAR . . . He will have to use his veto powers judiciously ever mindful of his TOP PRIORITY: WINNING THE WAR ON TERROR and PROTECTING THE HOMELAND!!
