John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, has accepted the position of deputy secretary of state, NBC News has confirmed. The job has been open for months since the resignation of Robert Zoellick.

Perhaps Negroponte will again represent the US at the UN as a deputy secretary instead of ambassador.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- National Intelligence Director John Negroponte will resign to become deputy secretary of state, a government official said Wednesday night.
Condi will run !!
A very odd move.
That was my thought. I didn't know that was a step up? ... is Bush cleaning house?
THAT was MY first thought.....VP candidate!
I don't think she has the fire in the belly for the job.
How about VP appointee? If we are guessing, that makes more sense. That would position her for a later run for the WH.
Is anyone familiar with retired Adm. Mike McConnell.
Does the new DNI have to be confirmed?
I can't even begin to figure out what is going on.
Interesting. When you read the whole article, it's mostly about McConnell.
Hopefully, Negroponte is being moved over to State to try to clean that traitorous, communist rat-hole up a little bit. Good luck with that.
You may indeed ne on to something there. If condi does run, expect the RINOs to try and back stab her in every waty possible, just like they did with Tom DeLay.
McPain figures the presidency must be his, he was "robbed" in 2000,and he has been plowing his road for 4 years, and has left a lot of good people in the ditch, as well as selling out his own party and its legislative agenda in the debate surrounding the cloture issue, that so called nuclear option.
I hope Condi does run, it would put McPain and the RNC soft cheeses into demonstrable fits of teeth nashing about things not going according to the RINO plan.
I have noticed that Condi has looked not so happy in the last couple of pics. There is a change of attitude in the air and the President seems to have found his way.
yes

"I have noticed that Condi has looked not so happy in the last couple of pics."
The same was noticed here. We thought perhaps she was ill or (understandably) exhausted.
'Condi will run...'
My first thought was Condi will soon depart the Administration and Negroponte will take her place. IMHO, doubt she'll run....just think she'll be leaving soon.
As much as I like her and admire her achievements, you can't say that she has made an impact at the State Department.
Whatsamatta! If Obama Rama can run for the presidency with lesser qualified experience than Condi Rice, I would say that she could make the grade. She has the experience administratively, but she needs the political experience. Now I wonder what Karl Rove might be able to do about that boyo?
