Critic Takes Over Lieberman's Party

Hartford, Conn. -- The party Sen. Joe Lieberman created to mount his independent re-election campaign has been seized by one of his critics, and the secretary of state's office said Wednesday that it won't challenge the takeover.

After the senator's Nov. 7 victory under the Connecticut for Lieberman Party banner, John Orman switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Connecticut for Lieberman and voted himself chairman.

Orman, a political science professor who ran briefly against Lieberman last year, said only critics, bloggers and anyone named Lieberman can join the party, which he said would be a watchdog of the senator's actions.

Ted Bromley, a lawyer for the secretary of the state's office, said it won't take a stance on the legitimacy of Orman's leadership. He said the issue could be settled by a judge, but only if it's challenged in court.

The Dems are all cranked up about the possibility that Liebermann might vote with the Pubbies on Iraq War issues, and then hope to pillory him from his own organization. They can't stand him not voting the Dim party line.

Well this should be interesting, maybe Liebermann will simply become a Republican. He certainly would be justified in doing so.

conservatives are friendly to Lieberman because he's not the normal snake of a Dem, supports the war, gets the War against Terror, he takes the conservatives' position on the culture war. we can be friendly with people we don't agree with all the time.

3rd party nuts should take note. Orman automatically qualifies for the next ballot...no petitions for ballot access needed...by making this move.

I like Liebermann better than McCain ( Feingold). I wish he would run for the presidency, just to shill Hillery into a corner.

Because he is viewed as the weak link in the Dem party that can be turned.

He supports an nebulously reasoned war because it protects his country of origin, Israel. The Iraq war, if it ever was anything but, is now a liberal, humanitarian war. Supporting it does not make you conservative. And how is being a flaming leftist on every concievable domestic issue mean that you "take the conservatives' position?"

Lieberman is not from Israel: he's an American who is Jewish. But his support of Israel leads him to understand the dangers of terrorists and terrorism. If you review his history, you will see a number of times when he has voted with the President and/or Repubs --- that of course is what made him so unpopular with his own Democrat party.

I didn't know Pat Buchanan had a teenage son. You learn something new every day.

Don't mind that one. =D Buchanan is probably my favorite. Don't see what you guys have against him besides the fact that he strays from the party line on the war.

Lieberman is better than Chafee!

Lieberman is right on the war. I'm not aware that Chafee was right on anything...

Lieberman cannot become a Republican because he believes in 95 percent of the Democrat philosophy.
