Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!
.
Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,
Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Exactly !
Also .. when has the President mentioned about attacking Iran?
The only ones talking about that are the Dems
I need to get a bunch of things done .. BBL
Thanks again for all of the reporting, Mo.
I heard Laura with Hinchey.
But, earlier in her program, she said if she could find a pro-life democrat she would vote for him/her...because they are much better than the Republicans now days.
I agree about Ros-Lehtinen..
Do you want to get together and do something for her??
I am up for it.
Bah...I hear the border people saying THAT was the mandate..
the anti-war people saying that is the mandate...
the stem cell people saying THAT is the mandate.
The ETHICS people saying THAT is the mandate.
EXACTLY..Maddie...it doesn't take 5 MINUTES..but it seems like that is what Maddie and the dems want...only a 5 minute timeframe for Iraq to be a perfect country.
That is why I turn her off .. I am sick of the nonsense bashing
You can't see me...but I am clapping for the wonderful job you did today...you helped me a lot.
I was really interested in that hearing only because I knew that Maddie would be so defensive about how bad SHE did...that she would project failure onto the Bush Admin.
I was right..and you documented it perfectly.
Thank you.
Precisely. Whatever it is THEY want, THAT is the "mandate."
Queen Hillary is sitting in the big chair of the Senate...
I thought she was supposed to give a speech at the top of the hour, telling us how "capping" the number of troops in a WAR...will help the people we are defending..and how it protects our country....
I'm listening to Leahy. I want to see if we will get a reaction to the change in the FISA program.
We are....
I wish that podium thing would slip out from under him, when he leans on it!!
She is sitting there...so she can hear him say "Madam President"....LOL
YOU KNOW he is gonna make this all WRONG..whatever Bush does.
Didn't FISA get established in Clinton's admin??
Leahy said they got FISA because of illegal listening by the government...so does that mean CLINTON was spying on Americans??
Of course the Clintons were spying. I do not doubt that for one moment. Maybe the President did this to remove any chance that they can ever do that again if, God forbid (and I mean that), they ever get back into the White House. Still, I am not convinced it is a good idea.
Clinton's FISA court "accidentally" listened in to Strom Thurmond's phone conversations. I used to have a link but deleted my files to this subject matter just a week or so ago when it no longer seemed to be a hot topic.
Hitlary up on FNC to talk about her trip to Iraq. She says that Pakistan is sending jihadists over the border. No word about Iran.
Hillary:
She's bragging about how she has called injured soldier's families. One injured soldier told her that the armored HUMVEE saved his life. We talked about how we still don't have that vehicle available to everyone.
We met with US commanders and toured hospital staging facilities which is the area where our wounded heroes are taken before being taken home.
During these intense 4 days we talked with US military, civilian representatives and foreign leaders. My experiences underscored my concerns.
We saw American service men and women performing bravely and magnificently and also saw a strategy that is not working.
I personally didn't see the kind of tangible evidence that we should be expecting from the Iraqi government nad our priorities are upside down.
Afghanistan is a success story so far but weknow it will be under increasing pressure in the days ahead and we should be adding forces there and using NATO more and making them stand up to their commitment of more troops.
In Iraq, it's the opposite. More troops won't help but we should be doing phased re-deployment to put pressure on the Iraqi government. (DON'T FORGET THAT JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO THE DEMOCRATS WERE DEMANDING MORE TROOPS IN IRAQ)
The president's team is pursuing a failed policy and Afghanistan needs more of our attention and I support several changes.
Hillary just made me slit my wrists......... and throw up my lunch. PLEASE DON'T ELECT THIS WOMEN!
Hillary:
I plan to introduce legislation with regard to Iraq that includes:
1) Cap current level of troops as they existed 1/1/07 and seek Congressional authorization for additional troops.
This cap has historical background in Lebanon and Columbia.
2) To increase leverage with Iraqi government, continued funding of private American contractors working for Iraqis and for the Iraqi government will be tied to certain conditions.
3) Missed it; FNC broke away so I'm going to MSNBC
she went to Iraq for four days and now she IS the expert.....God Help the USA
