Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!
.
Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,
Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
I heard the beginning when Bennett explained how corporate contributions have been outlawed since 1902 and then went on to explain how the money is channeled through .. the PACS
He was praising Edwards for "picking his spot"...that is why I said I don't think he was endorsing him...but, I guess what got me ticked was that in praising him for picking his spot, or stance to the WAY left...
He should also point out how he was during the run up to the war.
Sure he came out and said he was wrong...but, he is also the ONLY politician that I remember actually saying that Iraq was a IMMINENT threat...in the run up to the war. He voted for the resolution.
So...it isn't a positive quality to say you are wrong...and not take responsibility for what is going on now.
Fine by me .. the more left Edwards is praised for .. the better for us :0)
Ugh....Susan Collins up begging for that "Office of Public Integrity"...
Ugh
They really need to stop this whole Integrity BS
They are trying way too hard to put lipstick on a pig ... Plus
No One is buying
It would be laughable were it not so damn sickening.
I just love how they have to pass yet another law to make themselves Honest
I would like to know how many do they have to pass before they start being honest??
Nothing is more sickening that politicians that whine...
Lieberman and Collins are two of the best/worst...
WHY in the world should we, the taxpayers, pay for people WE don't vote for, have no control of....to make sure the people we DO vote for, play fair???
This is such a waste of time. Maybe we ought to be glad they're wasting time.
At least they're wasting time making "feel good" rules for themselves to undermine.
Don't you just wish you could walk out on the floor and start telling Lieberman what you think about this ridiculous proposal. Surely some more outside counsels would be a wonderful thing, right! And another bureacracy for us to fund. It looks like they are trying to create some jobs for their cronies.
You got me .. I'm a State Rights kind of gal
I don't like the Feds butting their noses in where it doesn't belong
Just like I don't like States demanding the Feds to pay for their mistakes and problems
Speaking of nimrod's ... There's my Senator sitting at the desk now
Durbin up about an amendment for 48 hour provision regarding earmarks .. though I didn't catch the whole thing
Now Durbin is talking about Thomas G Lions who died and will be having an Irish Wake tonight
Poor Byrd. His palsy is so bad that I almost feel sorry for him. Not sure where he is going with this.
HEAR ME NOW
The King of Big $$$ Pork is going to lecture us on spending
HYPOCRITE!
Oh, I see. Earmarks are GOOD because these guys control them. We criticize them because we are just too dumb to understand them. Guess the NYT criticism irked him. They are supposed to be on his side.
OK, Senator Bryd .. please do explain to us stupid people why we had to pay for all those buildings, streets and bridges names after you??
