Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!
.
Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,
Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
You are most welcome.
Time for me to get dressed and then out to dinner.
Ping me to anything good please.
Mo, hope you are feeling better.
Bah....I thought this bill would go to conference..but the screen keeps saying it will go back to the House.
So...this goes to the House...but, if they do what they say, and NOT approve it with the small business part in it...does it go into limbo.
When does it go to conference??
I am confused...as usual. I checked Cboldt's sight..and he hasn't posted since Jan 22.
LOL. Then Cboldt's site got at least 2 hits today.
I don't know what happens if it goes back to the House and they strip out the provisions for small business.
I thought I saw something on this yesterday. I'll poke around.
Vote - the bill is voted on. If passed, it is then sent to the other chamber unless that chamber already has a similar measure under consideration. If either chamber does not pass the bill then it dies. If the House and Senate pass the same bill then it is sent to the President.
If the House and Senate pass different bills they are sent to Conference Committee. Most major legislation goes to a Conference Committee.
In this case, it appears that a likely scenario is that the House will strip out the tax provisions and send it back to the Senate hoping to get a campaign issue if the Pubbies reject it and if they don't, to get the President to veto it.
And what do the starving 13 million children under the evil Bush economy do in the meantime? (sarc tag not needed)
Thank you both for chiming in on what happens now..
I got very "kid busy" and couldn't get back to my computer.
BTW..did you guys see the poll on Brit's show re: the Iraq War???
They asked if the President's new plan should get a chance to work.
41% said YES
49% said NO!!
Then they asked if the Senate resolution telling the Pres. not to add the troops would hurt morale or encourage the enemy.
25% said NO
47% said YES!!
Can you believe that??? What kind of Americans do we have anymore??
DUMBED down and foolish.
I'm just not that sure how much use these polls are.
I wonder.
Did you get to see the charming interval over coffee at the prayer breakfast? Just delightful.
I did, yes and thank goodness.
Americans who obviously don't have a clue of what the President's plan is and are parroting what the media tells them
They support the troops, not the plan
In reality, they can't have both .. it's one or the other .. because it is the troops that are implementing the plan
Without the troops, there is no plan and without a plan, there are no troops
The question that should be asked is .. Do the Americans want victory or do they want retreat
check out all other stuff Feingold introduced yesterday

Thanks Mo...going to look through all these. Seems to be a lot of election bills being brought forward...by Democrats.
Good Lord, McCain and Feingold are teaming up again for election reform.
Feingold wants to abolish the death penalty....deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Act, and 527's and soft money.
Senator Obama's clean and articulate remarks:
That is why I am reintroducing the Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act. It's a bill that makes voter intimidation and deception punishable by law, and it contains strong penalties so that people who commit these crimes suffer more than just a slap on the wrist. The bill also seeks to address the real harm of these crimes--people who are prevented from voting by misinformation--by establishing a process for reaching out to these misinformed voters with accurate information so they can cast their votes in time.
Senator Schumer has joined me in introducing this legislation, and we are joined by our colleagues, Senator Patrick Leahy, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and Senators Cardin, Feingold, Kerry, Feinstein and Clinton as original co-sponsors to this bill.
There are some issues in this country that are inherently difficult and political. Making sure that every American can cast a ballot shouldn't be one of them. There is no place for politics in this debate--no room for those who feel that they can gain a partisan advantage by keeping people away from the polls. It's time to get this done in a bipartisan fashion, and I believe this bill can make it happen.
I ask unanimous consent that a New York Times editorial from January 31, 2007, be printed in the Record.
Yes, let's bring election deception to the floor for a debate.
More quoting of the NYT's on the floor of the Senate.
Do we want to go over to the February thread?
