Yet the American government has failed to collectively use this formidable brain-power 5+ years after the attack by Jihadists on the American homeland to develop a truly strategic plan to fight the global threat of Jihad and Islamist extremism. In one of the most complex wars in American history, rather than starting with holistic, big-picture thinking towards the challenges and prioritizing resources and actions accordingly, America has spent much of the past five years after 9/11 in reactive and bureaucratic churning.

IDF force finds 60 kg explosive near Jenin

An IDF force found a 60 kg (132 lbs.) bomb west of Jenin. Tuesday night, an IDF lookout point noticed Palestinians laying a bomb west of Jenin, and detonated the bomb Wednesday morning in a controlled manner by Border Guard sappers.

According to the IDF, the explosive was meant to hurt IDF forces operating in the area. (Efrat Weiss)

Iraqi official says Saddam co-defendants to be executed Thursday Jan 03 6:05 AM US/Eastern

BAGHDAD (AP) - An Iraqi government official told The Associated Press on Wednesday that preparations were being made to hang two of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants on Thursday.

Al-Arabiya satellite television and Al-Furat TV, run by Iraq's major Shiite Muslim political organization, both also reported that Saddam's half brother Barzan Ibrahim, a former intelligence chief, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the former chief justice of the Revolutionary Court, would be hanged on Thursday.

The government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information, said the exact place and time of the hangings had not been set.

I'm here, preparing a special summary projecting hot spot activity for 2007 for this weekend.

"At least three or four times a week on flights bound for O'Hare Airport, emergencies are called by pilots during flight, bringing fire trucks and ambulances to the runway area as a precaution. Almost always, the plane lands safely."

I can vouch for that personally. I live right up the street from one of the firehouses that goes on these calls. 5 pieces of equipment go roaring down the street headed for the highway into O'Hare. I can fire up the scanner and sometimes catch the inbound flight. A few occasions I have even watched them fly right over my house!

But yes, at least twice per week is the average. Thankfully, always uneventful.

I am hoping to spend some time with some of the folks on the thread figuring out how to do a few things better here as far as organization goes.

I have been in an out over the past few months as time has been a bit of an issue, but I would like to keep working along with all here in the future.

I was in Canada for New Years... came back on Monday and sat in 5 hours of traffic to get across the border. It was quite an experience. I was left with the knowledge that the process was inefficient!
