British freepers (and a lot of the other EU ones) will bristle at the EU being considered a nation.
As for Somalia, Ethiopia probably controlled that area at one time. Thing is, currently Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries on the planet, and Somalia is even poorer. It is debatable whether Ethiopia can afford to take over Somalia. However, they would have direct access to the ocean, again.

This may be Eithiopia's way of accessing the sea. I don't really care what the reason is, to be quite honest. Somalia is a failed state, and in the process of being consumed by AQ linked fanatics. If Ethiopia wants it, they're welcome to it. They're doing themselves, the region, and us, a tremendous favor. The average Somali certainly doesn't give a hoot; all they know is their tribe and their hometown. If this new government is better than the old one, everyone wins. Except al-Qa'ida. And that's what I call a happy ending.

It seems that that is a proposal, at least. The United States passed a law about Canada becoming part of the United States (back when the Yukon Territory was called Selkirk), and Australia has a similar thing in their constitution for New Zealand. Yet Canada and New Zealand are independent. Some EU members of Parliament are pushing for a EU-nation, but that has not yet happened.
To: Steel Wolf
They got a taste of sharia law and are fleeing into the arms of the Ethiopian army to prevent a repeat performance.
Good move.
