WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Man, that was my sniffly moment right there, seeing President Bush walk out with Betty Ford. Hell I wasn't even old enough to remember President Ford (I was born Nov 24 1976) and this is really something else to watch.

I grew up Baptist and am now Presbyterian and have sung "For All the Saints" in both traditions (more in the Presbyterian church).
It is a great Ralph Vaughn Williams hymn and perfect for this moving funeral.

I am glad you said that about the music because I was sitting here wondering the same thing.

Didn't Bubba fall asleep at Reagan's? Wasn't Hillary caught looking bored?
I caught this screen cap during the Reagan funeral service.
Drudge posted it on his website, and the rest is history.

Anyone know the Paul O'Neal/Ford connection? First I knew there was a link.

I hope that Carter doesn't pass away while we have President Bush in office. I can't see Pres. Bush having to escort Rosalyn after all the trouble they have caused him. Of course, he would do it if asked.

That cathedral is awesome. I have to admit the camera work is excellent.

Could you imagine what it would be like if Bush had to speak at a Clinton funeral?

"For All the Saints" is one of my favorite hymns which I just learned since becoming a Catholic. It is beautiful!I didn't realize that was a Catholic hymn! I'm almost positive I remember looking through a Catholic hymnal years ago and seeing songs in it that were written by Martin Luther. Is my memory correct? Have you ever seen Protestant hymns in your hymn book?

Sad it takes a funeral to openly display our Christian nature...our Christian nation.
Havent these people heard of the first amendment separation of church and state? (sarcasm)

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.
Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!
