WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Amen, roses of sharon. This is otherwise a beautiful and fitting service for a former President.

The Ford family is firmly rooted in their faith, thanks be to God.

I think when you die, you should get to pick who speaks. Ford wanted him. End of story!

I always use my vote for Carter as an example of how harmful one-issue voting can be.

Enough about Carter.

As that hymn was ending you could see Mrs. Ford say one word to her daughter, Susan, "Beautiful".

I thought the President did a great job but my favorite part will always be at the end on why Pres Ford lost the election. I was hoping that was in his eulogy.

And that snide remark that Ford wanted the White House Press Corp represented.

I doubt it. It was all about Brokaw helping to get the WW II Memorial and not about wanting the presstitutes represented. The presstitutes made no secret of their hatred for Ford for pardoning Nixon.

President Ford spoke to the Bishop about the division in the Church.

Bishop was asked to work for reconciliation in the Church. (Somehow, a little niggling doubt about this is creeping into my brain, which I will slap down as being sinful.)

I was ashamed of him and his whole damn family during his disasterous and unfortunate presidency. Miss Lillian, Billy and his beer -- all of them. They were completely out of place in the WH.

It's the coughs that were held in during the previous speaker.

Well, you did!

"It is sad that a member of the MSM was asked to speak, but most establishment Republicans in DC do not know who this nation's real enemies are, obviously."

He's the minister of Ford's church in California; I have seen no indication that he is a Bishop.
