WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

I'll give Brokaw this... he seemed to mostly address Mrs. Ford and I liked that!

POTUS speaking!

Brokaw prominently attended the premiere of Michael Moore's Fahrenhate 911, and praised it.

I don't cut him ANY slack.

Apples and oranges. He's here to pay tribute to Gerald Ford, and he did well. He's there because Gerald Ford wanted him to be there.

He loves the WWII vets, so he gets a pass, in my book, just for that. He and Prez Ford worked on the WWII memorial together.

If Jerry Ford liked him enough to have him do that, that says something (for both of them).

There was no shot at W in his remarks.

The crack about how nice it was for President Ford not to view the press as the enemy (I'm paraphrasing, don't recall the exact words) unlike his predecessor. The press has made the same charge at Bush 43, who now follows Brokaw.

But I'm glad that some missed that, and there will be time to debate that afterwards, so I'll drop the subject.

This isn't about FR or what we want and feel. Brokaw was asked to be there by President Ford, and that's good enough for me.
