WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

the "who she was" WOULD play a factor, especially there .. you couldn't PAY me to get married (or buried from) the National Cathedral as it's evolved in the past couple decades ... they seem to have lost complete track of its raison d'etre and turned to worshiping a golden calf, if you will.
Thank you, Mo1, and thank you everyone for the lovely (mostly LOL) conversation. :-)
I watched it alone, but got to enjoy the recap with friends.
And now, to get dressed =:-0 and 'start' the day...
God bless President Ford's family and grant him peace.
I don't go very often, since my church is on the VA side of the river; I was confirmed in the church by Bp. Walker, back in 1983.
It made me feel sorry for her
One day she'll have to go through all of this and she has basically no family or brothers & sisters to help her through it like the other President's families do
For the first time ever I watched c-span thru the entire coverage, just beautiful, no msn bias or their usual
cheap chatter at the wrong time or their self praising comments,(Jerry said to me, blah, blah ).What a relief to quietly pay my respects.
don't apologize, YOU didn't pick the bishop ;)

President Bush and Mrs. Bush receive blessing. (May God continue to bless this man who is so greatly burdened.)

Maybe silent_jonny or someone saved a copy of it. It's not on the White House website either.
I loved Bishop Walker, though. :)
when are the Clinton's going to stop dragging Chelsea around as if she's still 12 years old? There was NO need for her to be there today, or at any other state occasion since her father left office. If she's only a political prop for her mother, their bringing her to these events is even worse.
Cspan is no longer on our Direct TV either.
bummer.
we can agree to disagree on that one ....
I kinda figured. ;)
It was the experience of a lifetime.
We have their Christmas Fudge and Fruitcake at home now.
I was born in a hospital run by Franciscan sisters. My father, who was absent from my life, was named for two saints one being Francis.
I live in the City of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels. I did live in San Francisco for some time and would like to live in Santa Fe.
On and on, there has been a Catholic theme beguiling me all my life that now I see.
I am so pleased to read of your experience of the abbey. Your life was truly changed for the better.
I have even noticed some members of the media now say it was the right thing to do. Litle late IMHO. Where were they when they attacked Pres Ford unrelenting day after day?
I think your key word is "thinking" because a lot of voters don't seem to think very much before voting. Like lemmings in voting because of the media spin for the liberals IMHO.
Is there a draft petition out there anywhere?
Whether it is agreed or not the U.S. was loved by him and he did what he thought was right. I am appalled that some politicians failed to pay proper respects for what seems to be partisan reasons. That is a slap in the face of every American and every Republican American in particular. That makes me sick.
UGH - why did you have to remind me?
As I said to my husband - if she were a REPUBLICAN from Balto, you'd be damned sure they wouldn't bother naming anything after her!
